The Sr Manager, Supply Quality is responsible for the development, management, and control of a wide range of programs and activities that ensure product safety and quality at Lactalis Heritage Dairy (LHD). This position is responsible for the business results of the team that oversees all aspects of supplier approval (cheese, ingredients, packaging, chemicals, and technical services) and industrial copack quality (CPM reduction, finished good quality).

Key responsibilities for this position include:

  • Owns the supplier approval program Ensures that all processes and procedures are communicated and adhered to.

  • Ensures all audits are performed for the calendar year based on risk. Ensures the Supply Quality team is available during GFSI audits to cover the supplier approval program.

  • Serve as back up in conducting audits using GFSI, HACCP & ISO 9001/22000 methodologies to assess food safety/quality risks & recommends mitigation strategies.

  • Ensures supplier/copacker documentation is always available and up to date. Ensures the LHD supplier list is complete and accurate, and each supplier and supply is assigned the appropriate risk number. Ensures there is an accurate list of all supplies, the production location of each supply, and where that supply is used within LHD.

  • Responsible for completing and reporting the SQMP to Laval.

  • Partners closely with the Purchasing team by supporting the bid process (review specifications, provide information) and participating in monthly calls.

  • Ensures all purchased/co-packed products/ingredients have appropriate analytical criteria using industry and Lactalis standards.

  • Partners with R&D to provide technical knowledge regarding supply quality.

  • Oversees the investigations of copakers/supplier complaints. Ensures all complaints are investigated, resolved and the outcome is communicated.

  • Partners with suppliers in complex matters that require technical expertise. Consults internal experts as needed.

  • Ensures supplier performance data is collected, reviewed, and communicated to internal partners.

  • Responsible for informing copackers of the LHD quality KPIs including lowering CPM.

  • Partners with internal and external teams on issues involving technical services as it pertains to quality (pest control, uniform etc.).

  • Maintains a close partnership with cross functional teams at LHD, LAG, and LUSY to achieve company objectives. Maintains a connection with Groupe Lactalis Quality Department to maintain and gain technical knowledge.

  • Manages direct reports through developing and training, directing, monitoring, and coaching. Sets annual goals for team, routinely provides clear and actionable feedback. Conducts mid-year and year-end appraisals. Partners with HR on all employee relations issues.

  • Partners with Director, Quality Control to create new job descriptions, interview candidates and make selection decisions

Requirements

Qualified applicants will contribute the following:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, food science, dairy science, or life sciences.

Experience

  • Experience in cheese manufacturing is required.

  • 8+ years related experience, including active involvement in Quality Programs in a cheese manufacturing environment.

  • 5+ years of experience leading direct reporting team members is required is required.

Specialized Knowledge

  • Strong cheese chemistry knowledge.

  • Solid knowledge of GFSI, HACCP, US food regulations.

  • Proficiency with data management portals.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong organizational skills and proven attention to detail.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage projects in a changing, complex environment.

  • Collaborative & pragmatic mindset.

  • Ability to travel up to 40% and work extended/off-work hours.
