The University of Chicago\'s Department of Surgery, Section of Trauma
and Acute Care Surgery, is searching for full-time faculty members at
any rank. The appointees will contribute to patient care, medical
education, and scholarship. They will join a vibrant, diverse, and
distinguished community of faculty colleagues and learners in UChicago
Medicine, the Biological Science Division, the Pritzker School of
Medicine, and the University of Chicago and its affiliates. A tradition
of excellence in patient care, basic, clinical, and translational
sciences, combined with the strengths of one of the world\'s top
academic institutions provides the foundation for a career as an
academic physician. Other duties will include teaching and supervision
of trainees and students, and scholarly activity.
We especially welcome applicants with trauma and acute care surgery
experience and an interest in leadership in trauma and surgical critical
care. We have launched both surgical critical care and trauma
fellowships. We especially invite applicants committed to working in
academic medicine with interests in research related to injury response,
trauma care, trauma prevention, healthcare disparities, innovative
approaches to urban healthcare delivery and/or other broad areas related
to the mission of an academic level 1 trauma center. Academic rank and
compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) are
dependent upon qualifications.
UChicago Medicine has been at the forefront of medical care since 1927.
Located in historic Hyde Park, the primary medical campus includes the
Center for Care and Discovery, Comer Children\'s Hospital, Bernard A.
Mitchell Hospital for adult inpatient care, and the Duchossois Center
for Advanced Medicine (DCAM) totaling more than 550 beds in service and
net patient care revenues over \$1.4 billion. Plans are underway for an
additional 150-bed patient tower. New ambulatory facilities are located
in Orland Park and the South Loop, and the Ingalls Health System has
recently integrated into the network.
The University of Chicago has established a Level 1 adult trauma
services on its Hyde Park medical campus,
supplementing the existing Level 1 pediatric trauma services and the
Burn and Complex Wound Center.
Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a
medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical
licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be Board certified or eligible in
surgical critical care and general surgery (or equivalent), and 4) have
completed an accredited fellowship or equivalent training in
trauma/critical care.
