Responsibilities
What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems is seeking a highway safety engineer to support a variety of projects in the Midwest region. The ideal candidate will have significant experience and demonstrated technical excellence in highway safety and transportation project management. This position is with our Midwest traffic team.
A candidate for this position should have strong listening and communication skills with the ability to write materials, develop plans and present concepts and ideas to clients that relay a clear message. Additionally, we are seeking someone with strong leadership ability, is a team player and takes ownership of their work. The primary types of projects the candidate will be assigned include:
- Serve as an expert on highway safety for design and planning projects and grant applications. This might evolve into leading a team of safety planners/engineers. This would start as a Midwest role andcould potentially grow into a national role within the company.
- Acts as a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer for safety focused planning and design projects, including being responsible for the budget, and general results of tasks.
- Review project pursuit proposals for improvements in safety and innovations and provide input to enhance project approach and the overall deliverable.
- Provide team leadership. Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of a staff of engineers and technicians.
- Responsible for client satisfaction, including serving on and leading Client Service Teams.
- Oversees discretionary grant applications and planning studies.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing professional networks; participating in professional societies. These activities can be accomplished in person or virtually, if needed.
- Communication Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Demonstrates strong and polished presentation skills; Participates in meetings; Writes clearly and informatively; Presents data effectively.
- Quality Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote high quality.
Qualifications
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- At least 15 years of transportation engineering experience.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Demonstrates creativity, foresight and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems.
- Actively engages multiple perspectiv s when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
- Actively advocates for full inclusion in the workplace, fostering an environment that welcomes diversity and values equity for all employees, partners, clients, and the communities that TranSystems serves.
