JOB TITLE: Equipment Operator 2
MUSTS: Must have a High School Diploma or GED (General Education
Degree) with two to four years of related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have the ability to
read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Must also be able to interpret a
variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule
form. Must hold a current CDL Class A Hazmat and Tanker Endorsement
Driver s License. Must have the ability to be on-call 24 hours/day, 7
days/week for snow removal.
SKILLS: Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Must have the
ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,
commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and
volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry as well as
ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete
variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Physical Requirements may include: Regularly lifting and/or move up to
25- 50 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; and
occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. This position requires
regular exposure to outside weather conditions and vibration. As well as
exposure to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. May also
be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high precarious places; toxic
or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; and risk of electrical
shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
DUTIES: Operates and maintains a wide variety of light and heavy equipment
used in the maintenance and repair of County roads and bridges. May act as a
lead worker on projects when the foreman is absent.
Operates all of the following pieces of equipment on a regular basis:
mower, grader, loader, large backhoe, track-hoe, low-boy trailer,
large steel roller, scraper, dozer, and screen plant.
Operates heavy equipment for digging and opening ditches, grading
shoulders, and slopes, and other road grading up to and including finish
grading.
Operates equipment in clearing right-of-way, trenching, filling and
backfilling, and snow removal.
Operates asphalt equipment in road maintenance, construction, and repair
work.
Operates equipment other than the pieces regularly assigned on an as needed
basis.
Loads and places sand, earth, rock, asphalt, and other road
construction and maintenance materials.
Fastens attachments to tractor or other related equipment.
Connects hydraulic hoses, belts, mechanical linkage, or power takeoff
shaft to tractor to provide power to raise, lower, or tilt attachment.
Moves levers to control tool bars, carriers, and disks.
Moves levers and depresses pedals to maneuver tracker and raise, lower,
and tilt attachment to clear right-of-way.
Feels lever and listens for stalling action of engine to estimate depth of cut
.
Operates heavy equipment in successive passes over terrain to raise or lower
terrain to specified grade following markings on grade stakes or hand signals.
Operates various hand tools and equipment including, but not limited to
chainsaw, weed eater, plate packer, jumping jack packet, portable
pump, generator and air compressor.
Assists foreman in training new equipment operators or other employees on new
pieces of heavy equipment.
Greases, oils, and performs minor repairs on heavy equipment as assigned.
Performs all the functions of a truck driver on an as needed basis.
Performs related work as required by the Road Supervisor.
WAGES: $18-$21 per hour, depending on experience. Salary to be
discussed further with the Employer. Paid Bi-weekly.

DURATION: This is a permane t position.
SHIFT: This is a full time, 40 hours per week position. The exact days
and hours are to be determined by the Employer. May be required to be on-call
24 hours/day, 7 days/week for snow removal.
JOB SITE: Rio Grande County Road & Bridge Shop/Monte Vista,
Colorado, and other locations throughout Rio Grande County
