EMEA Self-Care and Global Nicorette R&D Sr Director
The R&D Senior Director will lead the EMEA R&D Self-Care End-to-End Innovation teams. The role will be directly accountable for defining the regional organization and business strategies for these teams that align with the Kenvue vision and objectives.
This role is the global R&D leader for the Smoking Cessation / Nicorette Brand. In this capacity, this leader is the senior R&D partner with the global commercial team, collaborating with key partners to build the overarching business strategy and create the global innovation pipeline. This leader is the single R&D representative on the commercial leadership team, accountable for representing the complete end-to-end technical perspective to the commercial team and is the decision-maker for R&D for Nicorette.
Additionally, this role establishes and drives the implementation of an R&D portfolio through strategy, scientific research, and partnerships. This role leads the global research and development leadership team to drive the global technical strategy with input from regions to deliver the innovation portfolio. This role will ensure that one R&D global strategy is provided to maximize impact and ensure all innovation strategies, including regional brands, leverage the global technical strategy. This role reports to the VP of EMEA R&D and will join the Self Care R&D leadership team. The leader will collaborate strongly with global R&D development centers and external development partnerships where necessary.
This role will lead R&D teams from early innovation and concept generation to scale-up, validation, launch, and post-launch. They will work with global partners across R&D, from product design, clinical strategy, consumer science, regulatory, medical, and packaging, to drive the technical strategy and execution of the innovation pipeline globally.
Responsibilities:
Lead the execution of the end-to-end innovation pipeline for Self-Care, including Nicorette, Zarbee’s, Imodium, Frenadol, etc., enabling the business strategy through innovative solutions for our consumers, customers, and planet.
Lead role in R&D for technical problem resolution and project success criteria, demonstrating superior technical formulation knowledge and processes.
Lead a team of directors and scientists, driving their talent and development agenda.
Understand the research landscape and leverage internal and external networks to access new scientific technologies that enable a fast and agile go-to-market model. Anticipate competitor activities, regulatory developments, and sustainability trends to ensure that the pipeline and portfolio are robust and competitive in terms of performance, claims, and cost, which meets the requirements of the business and consumers’ needs.
Ensure all processes and activities comply with company policies and applicable external regulations/laws. Provide and nurture the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and compliance.
Define the regional Self-care organization and recruitment and management of Talent.
Manage EMEA Self-Care R&D development budget.
Other Duties:
Develops budgets, proposals, progress reports, and portfolio management procedures that articulate precise project initiation, development, and termination criteria.
Accountable for the financial performance/budget and efficiency and effectiveness of a significant portion of the budget.
Navigates the organization and aligns people and activities across multiple groups.
Identifies, prioritizes, allocates appropriate resources, and oversees project progress to achieve organizational objectives.
Negotiates and solicits acceptance of new ideas, approaches, and concepts with broad cross-functional/cross-department implications.
Communicates organization priority updates and milestones to senior management, key business leaders, and peers.
Significantly improves changes or develops new business/work processes to share knowledge, build intellectual capital, build strategic capabilities, and promote innovation throughout the organization.
Creates cross-discipline or department forums to enable the sharing of breakthrough insights and helps groups interact and explore adjacent fields, creating opportunities for breakthroughs and creative ideas.
Qualifications
Required Minimum Education:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in sciences, Engineering, or Pharmacy is required.
Required Years of Related Experience:
10 years of experience in product development in the consumer health industry
5 years of demonstrated deep knowledge of consumer insights, market research, and industry trends.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience working in a consumer products company with an emphasis on developing and commercializing products.
Experience in OTC/Medicated consumer drug products, medical devices (Class I &II) development, and food supplements.
The incumbent must demonstrate excellent communication skills and possess the ability to influence at senior levels.
This individual must have experience partnering with internal/external resources to drive innovation.
Demonstrated leadership in leading and working in a cross-functional team is required.
Ability to build cross-functional solid relationships in the following areas: Marketing, Technology, Formulation, Operations, Regulatory, and Legal are necessary.
Demonstrated experience in new product development is required.
