TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES Deputy Constable-Bailiff in Abilene, Texas

[Deputy Constable-Bailiff *A bailiff must be at least 21 years old and hold a peace officer license under Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Criminal history and background investigations will be conducted on all applicants. A bailiff must complete the 8 hour (or longer) Court Security Course. The bailiff holds office at the will of the judge of the court served by the bailiff. Each Bailiff is responsible for the safety and security of the court and judge to which they are assigned.   • Maintain order in courtroom during trial and guard jury from outside contact.
  • Check courtroom for security and cleanliness.
  • Enforce courtroom rules of behavior and warn persons not to disturb court procedure.
  • Provide jury escort to restaurant and other areas outside of courtroom to prevent jury contact with public.
  • Make warrant arrest and take persons into custody.
  • Report need for police or medical assistance or prisoner transport to sheriff's office.
  • All applicants must have 1-2 years of experience in law enforcement.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, bi-lingual in English and Spanish a plus.

*Starting Salary: $53,500.00 + benefits *Benefits include: 100% county-paid employee medical and dental insurance, paid life and disability insurance, retirement, and paid vacation/sick time.
