JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Abington seeks a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Specialist for its Student Affairs department. Reporting directly to the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the DEIB Specialist primarily provides leadership and support to unit/college management directors; creates programs and develops resources, and conducts outreach.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in the creation of the strategic vision related to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) efforts in the assigned area; provide outreach, programming, and resources for students, faculty, and staff to enhance belonging

  • Articulate and promote the benefits of diversity and advocate for an inclusive environment that engages diversity to strengthen and maintain a positive educational experience/environment

  • Oversee and administer the DEIB budget for assigned area; allocate resources appropriately

  • Provide DEIB education through presentations and trainings

  • Collect data to assess the success of DEIB programs and outcomes; prepare and provide reports and updates

  • May meet with students or employees related to DEIB concerns; participate in the creation of a remedial action plan

  • Educate students and employees about avenues and resources for reporting concerns

  • Design and implement activities for engagement in DEIB efforts and programs

  • Design and coordinate activities for diverse student/employee groups and organizations while connecting and communicating the mission of the DEIB office with broad audiences

  • May manage the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students

  • Maintain industry awareness; update leadership on best practices to create a more inclusive environment for students and employees

  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development, and performance management

Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and 3 years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's degree preferred.

The successful candidate is flexible, creative, empathetic and ready for a student facing, fast-paced environment. The DEIB Specialist is strong leader who is committed to fostering a sense of belonging for diverse populations and continually strives to learn, grow and share daily to model the way for student leaders. A nontraditional work schedule is required.

This position requires successful completion of the following three publicly available clearances:

  • Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check

  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance

  • Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Background Check

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$51,000.00 - $74,000.00
