Indian Health Service Clinical Psychologist (Child) in Acomita, New Mexico

Summary This position is located within the Behavioral Health Department at the Acoma-Canoncito-Laguna Indian Healthcare Center (ACLIHC), Acomita, NM. The Behavioral Health Department consists of an outpatient mental health clinic which provides clinical and preventative psychological services to community members and their families. Responsibilities Provides direct clinical psychological services consisting of individual, family and group psychotherapy and telehealth for youth and adults. Provides crisis intervention in urgent care, suicide assessments, psychological testing, and consultation with multi-disciplinary treatment staff. Conducts assessments of patients, formulates treatment plans and consults with medical staff/professionals to determine if referral will be required to other services or resources. Provides consultation to physicians, other health professionals, paraprofessionals, and mental health clinicians. Provide outreach services to the community which are sensitive to the culture, traditions, tribal history and community values. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. The Hiring Manager/Selecting Official may elect to utilize an available flexibility wherein applicants who are currently enrolled and expected to complete the required education and/or obtain the required licensure/certification/registration within 9 month(s) of applying, may be deemed tentatively qualified. Basic Requirements for the Clinical Psychologist, 0180 You must have completed the requirements for a doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. Additional Requirements In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, to qualify for the grade GS-13, you must have one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (obtained in public or private sector) performing the following: (1) Applying ethical and professional guidelines in diagnosing and treating physical and/or mental disorders; (2) Providing counseling (e.g., behavioral health, substance abuse, etc.) and related mental health services to children, adolescent and adult individuals in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, or other community locations; (3) Using knowledge of human behavior and performance in assessing and developing treatment of mental, behavioral and affective disorders; (4) Performing psychotherapy interventions which may include individual, couples, family or group therapy. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. The Indian Health Service (IHS), National Health Service Corps (NHSC), and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) have student loan repayment programs for qualifying health disciplines.
