Job Purpose

  • Carry out routine product in-house electromechanical assembly and testing.

  • Under the direction of the production supervisor or leading hand, undertake electromechanical product assembly, limited test and packing to achieve the agreed quantity and quality of work to meet planned and project scheduled time-lines.

  • Accountable and responsible for implementing product assembly from the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and project production schedules, ensuring specified time-lines (delivery dates) are achieved.

  • Build to project/job ISO (Internal Sub-Assembly Order) of all products within the value stream range.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

Program Management

  • Manage product assembly floor space to optimize productivity and efficiencies. Arrange assembly area in line with lean cell layouts, including easily accessible machinery / tools maintenance and calibration equipment.

  • Create Manufacturing Orders in line with timely release to MRP recommendations. Advise impact to Production Manager if MRP releases are overdue.

  • Confer regularly with Projects and Logistics staff to ensure accurate data and information is provided and expected project timelines can be met.

  • Plan and order packaging materials, including just-in-time (JIT) cases and crates, to ensure goods are packed in time to meet project despatch requirements.

  • Update Picking List shortages and ensure missing items are brought to the attention of your supervisor and/or Stores immediately.

  • Maintaining clean, tidy and safe working area and use 5S “visual workplace” processes.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and records (a production file) for each job and include photographs where deemed necessary, for proof of quality, quantity and packing crate materials and contents and jobbing function (recording commencement and completion times of a job).

  • Maintain the highest standard of quality for all products:

  • Report product or assembly non-conformances immediately to the Quality Control Technicians and Materials Planner.

  • Conduct off-site product quality control inspections as needed in order to meet delivery schedules.

  • Visit customer sites to carry out remedial work as and when required.

Information & Advice

Provide guidance and mentorship to the Contingent worker regarding assembly techniques/skills, quality control requirements and the implementation and use of lean manufacturing concepts/tools.

Continuous Improvement – PPI Lean

  • Work closely with and support the management and the PPI Lean Manager to maintain and grow the lean culture of the business.

  • Embrace the SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost (inventory and productivity)) culture and reinforce this in the work cell through daily management (stand-up meetings, Gemba’s).

  • Optimise workflow and productivity of the team through the use of PPI-Lean and 5S “visual workplace” processes, and ensure Daily Accountability through the use of metric boards, stand-up meetings and Gemba walks.

  • Ensure Standard Work is developed and maintained for all functions work cells.

  • Ensure all processes and procedure are documented, audited and complied with and be able to demonstrate continuous improvement and corrective action processes are in use, in order to meet the requirements for maintaining certification of the company’s ISO 9001 “Management System”.

  • Actively use the Root-Cause Counter-Measure (RCCM) 5-whys tool to evaluate gaps or misses in performance (KPIs) and establish sustainable corrective and preventative actions.

  • Actively promote the use of PPI Kaizens and Solo projects to audit and improve processes with the value-stream or functional process.

  • Be actively engaged in the CARES/CAS programme to be aware of and identify improvements to customer satisfaction.

Skills & Abilities

Essential –

  • Ability to read manufacturing assembly drawings and data, and convert to finished product

  • Computer literate, including the use of an ERP

  • Good time management and scheduling skills (multi-tasking)

  • Good problem solving skills

  • Above average communication skills – verbal and written

Desirable –

Experience

Essential –

  • Relevant experience in Mechanical and/or electrical assembly

  • Management of personnel performance and development plans

  • Operating in an environment of continuous improvement.

  • Working within a quality control system (ISO9001)

Desirable –

Knowledge

Essential –

  • Knowledge of electromechanical assemblies.

  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing assembly drawings and data.

  • Safe work practices in a manufacturing environment

  • Ability to use some manual, pneumatic and/or electrical tooling.

Desirable –

Qualifications

Essential –

  • Trade certificate (e.g. fitter, toolmaker),

  • Forklift licence

Desirable –

  • Rigging certification for overhead cranes
