SUMMARY: The Summer Academy Coordinator for grades 6, 7, & 8 will plan, implement, and supervise educational and career discovery activities. The Coordinator will also encourage staff to develop and implement their own activities and leadership. This individual should be energetic, self-motivated, compassionate, organized, and hard working. Supervise Summer Academy mentors and students for the duration of the program and serve as a liaison between parents, program personnel, and presenters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

· Coordinate, plan, confirm, and implement Summer Academy daily schedule of activities, presenters, field trips, and transportation.

· Meet with staff and students to discuss rules, roles, and expectations during the program.

· Collect and track time-sheets for Mentors and students to ensure they get paid for their time and attendance in program.

· Responsible for personnel issues related to job performance and staff.

· Supervise and coordinate the work and training activities of staff.

· Monitor mentors, students, and presenters throughout program to address needs or concerns as they arise.

· Administer first aid according to prescribed procedures and notify emergency personnel when necessary.

· Document any illness/injury or rule violation to the Youth Services Manager.

· Coordinator will schedule maintenance, monitor use of the facilities, assist with upkeep of the program locations, transportation, and recreational facilities.

· Update the Youth Services Manager daily of any needs or concerns regarding: maintenance issues related to the facilities, staff, students, and presenters.

· Record daily notes on staff, students, and presenters to assess program success, needs, and to evaluate and make recommendations by the end of the program.

· Exhibits leadership skills, dependability, patience, punctuality, teamwork, self-control, and enthusiasm.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: To supervise Summer Academy Mentors and students.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • An Associate’s degree (A. A.) or Bachelor’s degree is preferred in the following areas: education, or other degree areas, (Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, OR related curriculum.)

  • Three (3) months experience working with students is an asset.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills including word and excel for reporting and staffing payroll purposes, and be organized.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of daily situations.

Possession of a valid Driver License in accordance with Fleet Policy.

A list of qualified candidates is created from interviews that may be used for Emergency Hire individuals to similar positions within the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe for a period of six months.
