JOB TITLE: Recreation Specialist I
MUSTS: 1. A High School or equivalent.
2. Completed college coursework in recreation, physical education, early
childhood education, or related fields preferred.
3. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in recreation or early childhood
programs is required.
4. Current CPR and Basic First Aid Certification are preferred.
1. Work performed both indoors and outdoors. Exposed to natural weather
conditions when working outdoors.
2. Duties will be performed on sand, asphalt, concrete, grass, wood
floors and tile, all of which may be wet or dry.
3. Frequent walking, standing, and sitting while directing and planning
leisure activities. Occasional running and jumping related to athletic
activities. Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs.) in moving and setting up
equipment. Occasional bending, twisting, turning, and squatting in
implementing, setting up, and leading assigned activities and/or
programs. Normal range of vision and hearing for monitoring of program particip

SKILLS: Computer skills, verbal communication, customer service.
Knowledge of:
1. Recreation programs and activities.
2. Instructional techniques and rules governing sports/sportsmanship.
3. Safety rules and regulations.
4. Facilities, equipment, and materials utilized in recreation programs.
5. Basic record keeping practices.
DUTIES:
1. Facilitates or supervises the daily activities of a recreation program or
activity.
2. Must be able to evaluate potentially serious conditions or situations and
exercise sound judgment and decision-making.
3. Operates a computer keyboard to access the registration and facility
reservation systems.
4. Responds to questions from participants and other members of the public
concerning programs.
5. Checks facilities for possible safety hazards; secures facilities
following completion of the activities.
6. Assists with some maintenance duties and setting up areas for program use.
7. Assists in scheduling activities and tracking results.
8. Provides recommendations for developing new programming, expanding
current activities, drafting consistent procedures and activity rules, and
creating effective means of promoting recreation programs.
9. Performs other related duties as required. Will work directly with the
public in facilitating, teaching, and/or supervising the daily
activities of a city-sponsored recreational program or activity., answer
questions from the public, check for safety hazards, scheduling, and
other related duties.
WAGES: $19.63 to $20.01 per hour, depending on experience and skills.
Paid twice monthly.
BENEFITS: 5 days vacation annually, 5 days Sick leave annually, 1
personal Day off per year, 11.5 Paid holidays, retirement.
JOB TO START: As soon as qualified applicant is hired.
DURATION: This is a temporary position lasting approximately 3 months or less.
SHIFT: This is a part-time position of approximately 20 to 30 hours per
week. Exact days and hours will be assigned by the employer.
