Job Description:

Responsibilities

Are you ready to lead transformative change and make a lasting impact in our community? Health Research, Inc. is seeking a dynamic Community Development Coordinator I to help carry out the mission and vision of the Health, Wealth and Wellbeing Unit. In this position, you will contribute to spearheading innovative initiatives aimed at economic empowerment, community wealth building and community health improvement. Your expertise in community development principles, coupled with your passion for equity and justice, will drive initiatives to build wealth, improve community health outcomes, and reduce disparities.

The Community Development Coordinator I will foster community engagement, capacity-building, empowerment, improved health and wellbeing in marginalized, under resourced communities throughout New York State. The Community Development Coordinator I will aid in spearheading initiatives in the New York State Department of Health-Health, Wealth and Wellbeing Unit aimed at identifying and leveraging community assets, facilitating collaboration among diverse stakeholders, and implementing creative solutions to address wealth gaps to improve health outcomes and eliminate health disparities. The incumbent will work with community and financial institutions to contribute to the design and implementation of programs that increase wealth, improve community health outcomes and improve community wellbeing. The Community Development Coordinator I will also be charged with providing training and technical assistance for community stakeholders throughout the state during the capacity building and implementation stages of community wealth building initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of relevant experience in a health, human service or community-based organization that includes performing community development or economic development activities, providing community organizing and mobilization services, urban planning activities, or closely related experience; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least five years of community development or related experience (community organizing, community mobilization, nonprofit, urban planning etc.)

  • At least three years of program development and implementation experience

  • At least two years of experience managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Demonstrated experience managing contracts or service agreements(development and review of bids, budgets, and work plans, and approval and tracking of expenditures).

  • Demonstrated experience working with people of all racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds

  • Demonstrated knowledge of wealth building initiatives

  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of public health issues, health literacy and health equity.

  • Experience developing workshops and providing trainings for people of diverse backgrounds.

  • Strong commitment to social justice, health equity and racial wealth equity

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, 25-50% of the time, will be required. A valid driver's license in good standing is required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.

This position may require occasional work on weekends, after-hours, and holidays.
