DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: As a Research Chemist, you will contribute to the development and fundamental understanding of new ambient-cure coatings within the Decorative Coatings Formulation team PPG's Coatings Innovation Center. You will focus on developing VOC-free aerosols or other coatings that can be applied through small-volume applicators. You will understand the fundamentals driving the application and performance of such coatings and use this knowledge to develop new formulas or application techniques. You must demonstrate the ability to work within a collaborative team of chemists, engineers, technicians, and product managers.

Key Responsibilities * Work with project leaders to set goals and milestones. Coordinate related technical activities including synthesis, analytical, and application. * Design and conduct experiments around formulating paints, evaluating raw materials, understanding structure-property relationships, completing root cause analyses, and developing new test methods. * Develop and test new ideas to improve coating performance, meet regulatory requirements, and address unmet customer or market needs. * Fill and test aerosol paints and evaluate new spray technologies for applying VOC-free paints in small volumes. * Communicate results through laboratory notebooks, project reports, coatings reports, test drill presentations, and project update meetings. * Research internal and public scientific literature to explain observed experimental results and gain new perspectives. * Maintain awareness of pertinent competitive intellectual property activity and contribute to IP and examples for patent submissions. * Maintain and operate in a safe working environment.

Qualifications * BS in a technical field such as Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or Material Science is required. * 1+ year of experience in chemistry, polymer, and materials science. An understanding of coatings formulation and application techniques is desirable. * Experimental design and statistical analysis (DOE), formulation, or application experience.
