About the role

The Plant Supervisor role is pivotal in driving the success and efficiency of our Alton, IL facility. This position not only ensures the smooth execution of daily production activities but also champions safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives. By enforcing safety protocols, upholding Quality & Food Safety standards, and spearheading key performance improvements.

Key responsibilities

  • Safety Leadership: Enforces safety rules, encourages safe behaviors, and corrects unsafe conditions and actions to prevent accidents.

  • Quality & Food Safety: Endorses and ensures conformance to Quality & Food Safety Policies and Management Systems, reporting any failures to site management.

  • Direct Leadership: Takes on additional responsibilities beyond production supervision, including EHS, Quality, Maintenance, and Warehouse duties.

  • Production Execution: Manages production schedules to meet quality specifications and packaging requirements, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory policies.

  • Staff Coordination: Supervises hourly staff to meet customer delivery requirements and achieve equipment effectiveness targets in fermentation, filtering, or concentration.

  • Training: Trains new and existing team members on equipment operations, maintains procedures and instructions, and ensures adherence to established processes.

  • KPI Improvement: Assists in implementing initiatives to improve plant performance based on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like safety, quality, maintenance, product cost, and production volumes.

  • Delegation of Authority: Represents the site in the absence of the Plant Manager and may support other plants in the network.

  • Production Reporting: Ensures accurate production reporting in SAP and supports reports to measure performance against KPI targets.

  • Employee Scheduling: Schedules production personnel, approves vacation requests, arranges coverage, and manages timecards in Kronos.

  • Employee Management: Manages hiring, termination, corrective actions, reviews, training, coaching, and conflict resolution for the team.

  • Continuous Improvement: Leads cleanliness, sanitation, and housekeeping initiatives, and promotes continuous improvement through CI foundations like 5S, root cause analysis, and visual controls.

Qualifications and skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as production supervision in a manufacturing plant or related industry.

  • Previous Leadership experience is required.

  • Ability to understand functioning process equipment. Good communication, leadership, planning and organizational skills are required. Influential track record in training. Must have good computer/IT skills; and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite as well as an aptitude to learn new systems.
