Summary

The Office of Institutional Research under the Senior Vice President and Provost at Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a Data Analyst II term position.

This position conducts research and performs analyses in support of planning, program review, and general decision making plus designs and develops data systems and standardized operational procedures for data collection and dissemination. In addition, this position plays a major role in the development of widely distributed publications and the preparation of reports needed to meet governance and other reporting requirements of the University’s activities. This position also collaborates with the Provost’s Office to implement assessment strategies for the review of program-level and course-level improvement plans and learning outcomes.

The successful candidate will possess critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and the ability to explain data to multiple audiences with differing levels of understanding.

This is a two-year term position.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compile data and reports to meet external reporting and public transparency needs (e.g. IPEDS, Board of Regents, Fact Book, dashboards, etc.)

  • Develop and maintain customized dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators for campus leaders

  • Perform analyses and reports on results from surveys like NSSE, COACHE, etc.

  • Identify, gather, and source data from various internal and external systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity

  • Respond to questions about data sourcing, variances, and various other data related topics

  • Clean, validate, transform, and combine datasets from internal and external systems for effective analysis

  • Support data needs of university initiatives and projects, including the University strategic plan

  • Creation of new reports/dashboards to meet campus decision maker needs

  • Prepare data summaries and reports to support management and leadership strategic goals and objectives

  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns and insights

  • Use statistical models, data visualization tools and other analytical techniques to provide actionable insight from data

  • Conduct internal comparisons – differences based on demographics Etc.
