Senior Backend Engineer

AdAdapted, Inc. seeks a Senior Backend Engineer in Ann Arbor, MI.

Job Duties: Design, implement, and maintain main server-side software applications. Ensure a robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure. Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers. Collaborate with data analysts to ensure backend applications generate adequate data for internal and external reporting. Collaborate with data engineers to ensure backend applications generated data is properly collected and recorded. Design and manage database schemas. Ensure data integrity and security. Support the formulation of backend application functional and technical specifications and design basic prototypes. Assist in shaping the specifications for backend applications and develop preliminary models for existing services, along with potential future products. Collaborate with senior leadership, business analysts, and developers to help produce software architecture and designs. Transform software designs and specifications into high-functioning code in the appropriate programming language. Help integrate individual software solutions to higher-level systems. Deploy backend applications to production. Provision robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure. Optimize backend applications for maximum speed and scalability. Set up and continuously monitor performance. Troubleshoot issues and ensure uptime. Telecommuting is permitted up to 2 days per week. Must be on-call rotating weekends and holidays.

Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science or Mathematics or a related field and 4 years of experience in the job offered or as Data Scientist, Data Engineer, Backend Engineer, or closely related occupations. The required experience must include:
(i) 4 years of experience in backend development, including consumers and producers for data movement and consumption, internal and external facing application programming interfaces (APIs), and application security;
(ii) 2 years of experience in each of the following areas and technologies: Python 3.9 or greater; *nix operating systems, including Unix and Linux; Docker; using FastAPI to develop REST APIs and GraphQL APIs; PostgreSQL; and Firestore and ScyllaDB NoSQL databases;
(iii) 2 years of experience with Google Cloud in 2 or more of the following areas: Load Balancing; Cloud Run; Google Compute Engine (GCE); Logging; or Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE); and
(iv) 1 year of experience designing online analytical processing (OLAP) and online transaction processing (OLTP) systems for high performant APIs and reporting systems.
