What You’ll Do

This role was formed to provide centralized leadership and resources for individual plant EHS functional teams to assure baseline compliance programs are in place and functioning and that material compliance and SBD corporate obligations are consistently met.

As part of the SBD EHS Performance Team, the Regional EHS Leader has ownership of compliance, management system program development, execution, and material regulatory compliance at all facilities in the regional portfolio.

To achieve success all facilities in the Regional EHS Leader's portfolio will meet all material EHS regulatory and SBD requirements. Regulatory compliance and safe work performance are core elements of facility license to operate.

This role includes providing EHS managerial oversight of operations in their portfolio. Specifically, you’ll:

  • Influence and collaborate with plant and business leaders

  • Provide sites with technical support, expertise, direction, leadership, strategic planning, and prioritization to achieve EHS performance objectives aligned to corporate goals

  • Plan, direct, and execute on EHS initiatives to enhance the safety culture, and identify, evaluate, and control risks necessary to drive improvements in EHS performance and operating efficiency

  • Drives hazard identification, environmental aspect identification, and risk assessment programs to identify strategic risk improvement opportunities and gaps in health, safety, and environmental compliance obligations.

  • Assess facility programs (roadmap) and corporate EHS audit program elements against performance standards and directs short-term planning actions to set targets and objectives for the site and drives actions to completion.

  • Ensures ongoing compliance with all environmental permits, regulations, and reporting requirements for assigned facilities

  • Ensure timely incident reporting and investigations completed to identify root causes with corrective and preventive action plans & lead Sustainable Corrective Action Reviews

  • Support sites with incident and claim management

  • Establish effective safety, energy, waste, and water data verification/validation processes (assurance)

  • Report on regional EHS risks, KPIs and trends accurately with data and recommend constructive actions towards continuous improvements

  • Interface with regulatory agencies on compliance matters to minimize impact to the business, prepare local teams for agency inspections and interactions, and support and lead site team on all information requests from government agencies

  • Development and onboarding of Site EHS and Plant Leaders

  • Mentor and develop EHS staff and facility EHS resources

  • Drive execution of M&A activities, and ensure full integration of newly acquired sites into SBD EHS Management System

  • Establish a sense of urgency to mitigate emergent high-risk matters, including on-site response to emergencies

  • This position reports directly to the Sr. Director, EHS Americas Region in a hybrid model

Who You Are

You’re a curious problem solver who has the ability to bring big ideas to life. You’re creative and scrappy but can navigate a large organization with ease. You’re agile and adaptable and ensure we deliver top-notch customer experiences, always. You also have:

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in Occupational Safety, Health, and Environmental Management in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment (preferably global diversified company), with 3-5 years leading program at the corporate level.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in EHS management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, or closely related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.

  • In-depth knowledge of environmental compliance, health and safety management, regulatory, legal systems, and sustainability framework.

  • The region leader interprets, translates, and supports the implementation for execution for EHS programs and policies at the site

  • Ability to direct teams, manage and develop individuals. The regional leader works closely with plant leader and other department managers to execute the programs.

  • Possess leadership skills, problem solving skills and an ability to take ownership.

  • EHS Certification e.g., CHMM, CSP preferred.

  • Flexibility is required to respond to emergencies. Domestic and occasional international travel required up to 50%.

  • English and Spanish proficiency (speaking, reading and writing) required, Portuguese as a third language a plus.
