Amazon Principal Technical Program Manager in Arlington, Virginia

Description

Ready to take supply chain into the future at Amazon? If so, the Books Make-on-Demand Technologies (MOD Tech) org is looking for an experienced Principal Technical Program Manager (P-TPM) to revolutionize the way Amazon fulfills books (to start) via seamless content ingestion, on-demand manufacturing, and management of inventory supply before it even exists!

With Print-On-Demand (POD), customers can buy any book in any language on Amazon, where publishers and authors can distribute their titles across Amazon’s global websites without having to hold physical inventory, where every book is always “in-stock” and customer orders are manufactured in real-time and delivered on-time, helping the environment by only printing books readers want. Over the past 10 years, Amazon’s POD business has grown rapidly and become a strategic cornerstone in Amazon’s physical media business by supporting both selection and availability – but it is still “day one.” So, come build powerful solutions and architectures promising to enable many products beyond books, on-demand.

As a Principal Technical Program Manager on MOD Tech, you will independently lead broad cross-organization efforts from the early stages through release. You will be responsible for influencing organization roadmap priorities, system owners, team makeup, and technical direction. You will represent difficult trade-off decisions and debates clearly to senior leaders to help them understand options. You will be able to identify when a solution requires additional technical guidance or unlocks powerful capabilities. You will manage cross-functional and cross-organization communication to ensure all stakeholders are informed, and needs are aligned. You will guide the technical direction to deliver a solution that meets Amazon high standards for customer satisfaction, efficiency, stability, extensibility, simplicity, and operational excellence.

You will focus on identifying opportunities to scale and automate working with multiple supply chain teams and POD manufacturing operations across the globe. A Principal TPM in this job needs to deeply understand the end-to-end architecture of Amazon's POD, retail and fulfillment systems. They will work with business and product stakeholders, software, QA, training, and operations teams to drive architectural changes to optimize complex fulfillment systems designed for traditional physical inventory, with just-in-time production. The optimal candidate can articulate when a new service, integration or interface is needed (and when it is not). They write high level technical functionality one-pager/6-pager/FAQs (e.g., clarify inputs/outputs of a service, etc.).

The successful candidate will have an interest in book production and optimizing supply, combining creativity and passion for amazing customer experiences. They must be highly analytical, able to work effectively in a matrix organization, indirectly influence global, cross-functional partners, and adept at synthesizing technologies and capabilities into high quality, simple solutions.
