LinQuest is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer familiar with national security space systems to join our team at the Pentagon. The Space Systems Engineer will support the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space Acquisition and Integration (SAF/SQ).

The Space Systems Engineer provides expertise to assist SAF/SQ with fulfilling responsibilities as the Department of the Air Force (DAF) lead for space acquisition and capability integration activities, in collaboration with the offices of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (SAF/AQ), and the Chief of Space Operations.

The Space Systems Engineer primarily supports the Chief of the Science & Technology Division (SAF/SQAR), who serves as the Assistant Secretary’s primary advisor on space Science & Technology (S&T) investments. SAF/SQAR oversees both the integrated S&T portfolio as well as planning efforts to ensure that tech development meets warfighter needs. Working as a member of a diverse team, the Space Systems Engineer will:

  • Provide objective information and analysis supporting decision making on space-relevant S&T investments;

  • Collect, compile, and organize information to create and maintain a Critical Programs and Technologies List in collaboration with the offices of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics (SAF/AQ), and the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering (USD(R&E));

  • Assist with engineering review tasks including to include the management of the Independent Test and Risk Assessments (ITRAs) report for space programs, and System Engineering Plans;

  • Participate in tailored system engineering reviews contributing to acquisition program milestone decision processes;

  • Participate in the Space Systems Command’s weekly Science, Technology and Innovation Working Group;

  • Prepare and deliver executive level briefings, reports, and summary papers; explain complex concepts in relatively simple language; summarize key decisions; and provide recommendations supported by analysis;

  • Assist satisfaction of Congressional Reporting Requirements, and assist with responding to Congressional Staffer action items regarding oversight of space S&T efforts;

  • Provide coordinating support to other SAF/SQ Directorates and Division

Required Qualifications

  • A current Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required for this position

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) or otherwise documented competency in Systems Engineering plus 20 or more yrs. applicable experience in an Engineering, Scientific, Analysis, Policy, Planning or Program Management field related to Defense Space (experience may be substituted for education, or education for experience at the sole discretion of the customer)

  • Thorough understanding of DoD weapon system acquisition and Systems Engineering processes

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and writing) skills. Must have experience in using critical thinking to prepare written reports and presentations for executive-level officials

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to plan, work and deliver, both independently and as part of a diverse team focused on delivering essential national security capabilities to the joint warfighter

Preferred Qualifications

  • Headquarters Air Force (SAF, AF, or SF) staff experience within the past 5 years

  • Experience supporting a Space Systems Command program office, or the Air Force Research Laboratory, or a comparable organization

  • Experience relevant to National Security Space (NSS) acquisition program management (e.g., working in an acquisition program office)
