About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Parking Services Tradesworker in the Transportation department. Under general supervision, the Parking Services Tradesworker performs routine corrective/preventive maintenance of City parking facilities and ensures the safety and well-being of facility occupants.
What you’ll be doing:
Perform general painting work, which includes preparing surfaces, graffiti removal, and traffic striping for lots/garages.
Clean, organize, and keep inventory of all related tools and paint stock
Inspect parking facilities for needed repairs and maintenance of elevators, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, elevator emergency telephones, and lighting systems.
Make minor drywall and carpentry repairs.
Operate a variety of equipment such as: ride-on sweeper, leaf blowers, gas powered trimmers, pressure washer, salt spreaders, air compressor, hammer drills, and power/hand tools.
Make minor repairs and adjustments to parking access and revenue control equipment.
Perform patching activities using concrete, asphalt, epoxies, sealants, and other materials.
Perform preventive maintenance on parking facility equipment.
Assist in the maintenance of various electrical systems, including replacing faulty switches, plugs and ballast.
Perform preventive maintenance of HVAC systems such as: filter replacements and cleaning condenser coils.
Perform general grounds maintenance activities including maintaining parking lots, loading debris into trucks, removing ice, and related tasks.
Perform various activities such as: minor repairs to stairs, doors, door hardware, signs, and clearing garage drainage systems.
Answer and evaluate customer and employee complaints to determine necessary repairs or services needed to correct the situation.

About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered :
High school diploma or equivalency, PLUS two (2) years of experience performing a variety of semi-skilled construction work; OR two (2) year of experience performing related building maintenance and repair work OR related fields, bearing a logical relationship to maintenance/repair work; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Schedule: Monday - Friday/8:00AM - 5:00PM

Knowledge/Skills:
General knowledge in use of common hand and power tools
Basic mathematical competency.
Principles and procedures of record keeping including maintenance of activity logs and reports.
General understanding of how to use computers and related technology.

Ability to:

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in an outdoor field environment.
Travel from site to site.
Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gasses, grease, oils, exposure to irate and abusive individuals.
All types of weather and temperature conditions.
Exposure to hazardous traffic conditions.
Occasionally climb and perform tasks on ladders and other high surfaces.
Work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including slippery or uneven surfaces and rough terrain.
Physical Requirements:
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment.
To walk, stand, and sit for prolonged periods of time.
To frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and make repetitive hand movements in the performance of daily duties.
To lift, carry, push, and/or pull occasionally up to 50 pounds and with assistance up to 100 pounds.
