Job Title: Production Vehicle Evaluation (PVE) Test Engineer

Job Description

The OBD Production Vehicle Evaluation (PVE) Test Engineer is responsible for executing assigned OBD diagnostic demonstration programs which are submitted to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to support OBD certification.

Responsibilities

  • Order test vehicles.

  • Manage vehicle buildup, testing, and de-instrumentation.

  • Generate work order requests for vehicle instrumentation as needed.

  • Complete PVE testing following internally published best practices.

  • Use CAN and LIN communication software to ensure detection of networking faults.

  • Interface with a breakout harness and install resistors on electrical lines to ensure detection of circuit faults.

  • Utilize hardware (e.g., different EGR valves) to ensure detection of various faults.

  • Drive company vehicles on road for fault detection as needed.

  • Take vehicle diagnostic scans for data collection.

  • Facilitate the investigation of issues found during testing with Engineering teams.

  • Analyze results to ensure faulted demonstration per documented procedures.

  • Support OBD Reporting Engineering with updates to documented procedures as needed.

  • Support identification and read across of procedural concerns within the consolidated procedures document.

  • Submit requests to Instrumentation to have new breakout harnesses built as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

  • Minimum 2 years experience in OBD testing, certification, compliance, emissions testing, or similar.

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, MS Excel).

  • Detail-oriented, good people skills, and a self-starter.

  • Ability to independently manage project objectives and activities.

  • Good communication and coordinating skills to manage multiple vehicle programs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Understand regulatory certification related to OBD PVE testing or vehicle emissions testing.

  • Compile/review data and prepare necessary documentation in a timely manner.

  • Experience working in an automotive lab environment.

  • Comfortable working with government employees.

  • Experience setting OBD faults.

  • Hybrid and/or Electric vehicle testing experience is a plus.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $42.41 - $46.00/hr.
