Huckberry Buyer - Knits & Activewear in Austin, Texas

Huckberry is looking for an experienced Buyer to lead all aspects of their department with vision and confidence. Through merchandise, you will elevate our competitive positioning to drive sales and profitability across all channels. You will work closely with our House Brands team and external brand partners to curate a leading customer-driven product assortment. You will brief our Product Design team with consumer needs best fulfilled with House Brand products and partner with them to deliver these products profitably.

This role also works closely with Planning, Brand Marketing, Performance Marketing and E-commerce to ensure your products’ success upon reaching the market. As a category department leader, you will inspire your team and your cross-functional partners to deliver on the merchandise plan.

This role is based out of our headquarters in Austin, TX; relocation support will be provided to a remote hire.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and manage merchandising strategies to drive topline sales, margin, and inventory

  • Build a balanced range of merchandise that supports overarching financial objectives and brand vision

  • Uphold the brand vision from product concept to markdown, across key cross-functional touch points and milestones

  • Actively manage OTB to hit sales, receipts, margin, and inventory goals

  • Read and react to in-season sales trends to optimize business. Own daily, weekly and quarterly hindsighting

  • Manage day-to-day ebbs and flows of production and product life cycles alongside your PLM

  • Lead market buying activities for your categories - anticipate the needs of the business and go to market with a plan of action

  • Lead brand discovery to onboard exciting new brand partners

  • Establish and nurture existing brand partnerships, including growing exclusive and collaboration product offering

  • Ensure timely delivery of merchandise as it applies to the market and internal business needs

  • Own and present strategies at company-wide milestone meetings. Strong ability to articulate a plan and be persuasive.

  • Act as the glue between our creative services team and product team to craft exciting, inspirational storytelling

  • Create marketing briefs that relay product info for creative teams

  • Deliver a strong POV on product styling, and an understanding of the forward energy of the market

  • Work with creative and editorial on product pages and marketing direction

  • Manage the marketing calendar to ensure timely product campaigns to meet the moment

  • Coordinate PO deliveries with the brand operations team to ensure smooth product/marketing launches

  • Obsess over our customers, know the ins and outs of his feedback, preferences, and shopping behaviors

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the competitive landscape and ability to translate white space into business opportunities

  • Manage day to day work of the assistant buyer

Requirements

  • 5 years of buying and/or merchandising experience. Activewear experience is a strong plus

  • Experience managing at least 1 direct report

  • Experience managing multiple categories

  • A combination of House Brand and third-party brand buying experience is a strong plus

  • Strong negotiator - must be assertive as well as diplomatic

  • Excellent ability to influence, articulate, and present in meetings

  • Exceptional taste level - must know the men’s market and proven ability to buy and assort for the consumer

  • Strong analytical skill set and financial acumen - must demonstrate command and ability in financial analysis and decision-making

  • Proven ability to balance and drive a creative and financial perspective to deliver a best-in-class product experience
