Job Summary and Qualifications

The Trauma Educator/Injury Prevention Coordinator position is a 50/50 hybrid role. This Registered Nurse performs as an educator and mentor to staff along the entire care continuum, collaborating with the Emergency Department and in-patient Educators to ensure nurse competency in the care of the trauma patient. The Trauma Educator is a key component of the trauma program, providing oversight of education and clinical acumen in the facility, and understanding the relationship between robust performance improvement and the quality of trauma education and outreach activities. This professional is committed to adhering to current evidence as foundational to all activities.

The Injury Prevention Coordinator provides trauma prevention and outreach education and training to nurses, EMS providers, other healthcare providers, and community members. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator plays an integral role in injury prevention research and injury prevention programs that are consistent with community need, as well as research efforts related to trauma center data analysis and evidence-based research activities. The Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator oversees the Trauma Program’s public relations, outreach, and injury prevention programs to maintain Trauma Center verification and designation requirements for outreach education and injury prevention, including related Performance Improvement initiatives.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

• 3+ year’s experience in nursing

• 1+ year’s experience in trauma nursing

• Experience in teaching and facilitation of learning

• Previous experience in an injury prevention role in a trauma center, critical care or emergency department nursing or related clinical care environment.

• Documented experience demonstrating effective leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

• Master’s Degree in nursing or related field

• Experience in Quality/Performance Improvement

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Must demonstrate understanding of HCA’s and St. David’s “Patients First” safety initiative by strict compliance to all safety protocols and procedures.

• Establishes priorities and makes independent decisions of a complex nature.

• Interfaces directly with administration, physicians, public staff, and EMS, and all members of the healthcare team.

• Promotes the specialty capabilities of SAMC to the public and to EMS and community agencies.

• Ensures trauma service line quality which includes processes, services, satisfaction, and aligns with the facility/division quality standards and best practices.

• Recognizes that variables such as age, race, nationality, culture, disease-causing vulnerabilities, socio-economic factors affect the patient populations under their care. Uses interventions appropriate to these factors (e.g., interpreter, dietary preferences, social service consult, etc.)

• Knowledge of Windows, Power Point, Excel

• Experience in public speaking

• Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

Required:

• Current Texas RN License

• TNCC Provider/Instructor within 1 year of hire

• BLS/ACLS/PALS provider within 3 months of hire

• Stop the Bleed Instructor within 3 months of hire

• Car Seat Installer Course within 1 year of hire

Preferred:

• Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
