System Architecture & Design Engineer

BAE Systems wants your Systems Engineering talent to develop complex system architectures and perform system design activities such as developing and managing system, hardware and software requirements, performing system level integration/test and assisting in validation for complex avionics control systems. As a systems architecture engineer in our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring successful technical execution of development and providing critical input to Systems Engineering discipline processes in support of Controls and Avionics Solutions.

Controls and Avionics Solutions provides flight and mission-critical products to more than 170 commercial and military customers around the world. CAS products include flight controls systems, full authority digital engine controls (FADEC), autonomous flight systems, power management systems, flight deck systems, control sticks, cabin management systems, intermediate and depot level test stands, and mission systems for the world's most prominent commercial and military aircraft manufacturers.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Lead systems engineering functions performing one or more of the following:

  2. Develop, allocate and manage complex system, hardware and software requirements.

  3. Research and develop complex, safety critical, embedded control system designs and architectures.

  4. Define hardware, software, and programmable logic interfaces and functionality.

  5. Prepare and/or review documentation for system designs and architectures in accordance with established systems development processes and procedures.

  6. Perform system/product integration.

  7. Verify and validate moderately complex aspects of systems designs to ensure conformance with functional specifications and customer requirements.

  8. Produce and/or review technical documents, specifications and standards.

  9. Support business leaders in identifying potential new products or business opportunities and define associated program requirements.

  10. Support proposal development activities, including proposal text development, cost estimating and presentation activities.

  11. May support various specialty-engineering tasks such as Reliability, Maintainability & Availability analysis, Integrated Logistics Support.

  12. Prepare and deliver basic customer and technical presentations.

Candidates should possess strong communication skills both written and oral. Candidates should also demonstrate sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers and suppliers.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in related engineering field

  • Experience leading the architecture, design, and integration of electronic control systems which include hardware, software and programmable logic devices.

  • 10 years of experience in avionics or electronic controls embedded development, including familiarity with systems such as flight controls, engine controls or mission systems.

  • Experience in full lifecycle development including system requirements, design, system-level integration, validation, and verification.

  • Technical writing skills: capable of creating required engineering documentation.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Master s Degree in related engineering field

  • 12 years of experience in avionics or electronic controls embedded development, including familiarity with systems such as flight controls, engine controls or mission systems.

  • 2 years of experience developing architectural models using MBSE methodologies and best practices

  • 2 years of experience using MBSE/SYSML tools such as MagicDraw/Cameo

  • Experience with development of formal validation and verification procedures.

  • Experience with Multi-core and ARM processing hardware and software design.

  • Familiar with safety critical development including ARP4754, DO-178B/C and DO-254 or equivalent stringent process requirements.

  • Experience with circuit design (Mentor Graphics)

  • Knowledgeable of commercial and military certification objectives and activities.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $126610 - $215270

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
