STATE TITLE: SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR IV Telecommuting may be necessary due to current building construction in Austin headquarters or limited space availability at Regional Service Centers/TxDMV Offices. GENERAL DESCRIPTION Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. We are a dynamic state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries. Performs highly complex (senior-level) server administration work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), Information Technology Services Division (ITSD). The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent customer service skills, manage vendor support, and collaborate across teams to resolve service requests and incidents. This technical position requires a strong understanding of Linux and Windows System Administration. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provides Linux and Windows system administration and user support for end-users and technical staff. Administers Active Directory, file sharing, access privileges, and security controls. Monitors and manages day-to-day operations of servers and applications ensuring Service Level Agreement (SLA) compliance. Conducts security monitoring and ensures appropriate security controls are maintained and enforced. Provides technical expertise for the design, installation, support, and configuration of physical and virtual (VMware) servers and appliances. Researches and recommends network and server hardware/software improvements. Participates in system testing and validation for Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP). Assists in developing and maintaining documentation for system processes and procedures. Evaluates and provides input for IT procurement requests. Trains Server Administrators in server operations, installation, and maintenance. Manages email accounts, anti-spam, and anti-virus servers, and updates virus definition files. Ensures compliance with agency policies and procedures, including ethics and integrity. Travels up to 10% of the time, which may include overnight travel and extended work hours. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Extensive Knowledge of: Windows and Linux administration. Release, incident, and change management procedures. Qualifications: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems, business administration, public administration, or a related field. Five (5) years of experience in systems management, managed services, systems design, or architecture consulting. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. (Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time experience or the prorated part-time equivalent.) Preferred Experience: Linux RedHat administration Windows Server 2012 Exchange, Office, and Office 365 administration Configuring and maintaining Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and print services LANDesk management VMware or Nimble Storage experience ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Telecommuting may be necessary due to current building construction in Austin headquarters or limited space availability at Regional Service Centers/TxDMV Offices.
