The Engineering Manager is responsible for building, leading and managing a high performant customer-focused engineering team. The ideal candidate will drive best practices in troubleshooting, fixing defects, and developing solutions for customer escalations. This role involves close collaboration with customer-facing staff, investigating customer problems, writing standard work, establishing processes, creating dashboards, and selecting the best KPIs and metrics for monitoring and reporting. The Engineering Manager will ensure quality within the team and the wider organization, proactively examining current practices and recommending improvements.
This position reports to the Engineering Director and is part of the Customer Sustaining Team of Engineering Department located in Bangalore and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Lead and oversee troubleshooting efforts to fix defects and develop solutions for customer escalations, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues. Investigate customer problems in close collaboration with customer-facing staff, providing regular updates and enhancing overall satisfaction through effective communication.
Write standard work, establish processes, and create dashboards for monitoring and reporting.
Follow, establish, and promote best practices to ensure quality within the team and organization. Establish and promote TDD/BDD strategies, Continuous Integration (CI), and Continuous Delivery (CD) processes within the team.
Mentor and develop team members, building and retaining high-performing associates.
Adopt Agile working practices such as Kanban or Scrumban to manage the team’s priorities and workload.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 12+ years of experience OR Master’s/Doctoral degree with 7+ years of experience, including 3+ years leading people.
Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in the software development life cycle, including troubleshooting, maintenance, development, and verification (Java, JavaScript, OOP concepts, SQL/NoSQL databases, unit & integration testing, Privacy & Security).
Proven experience in engineering management or a similar role with strong organizational, leadership skills and ability to mentor, develop team members while following HR processes related to performance management and competency frameworks.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, and experience in process improvement and championing software engineering best practices, secure design, development, testing, and architectural practices
Creating dashboards and selecting KPIs, managing and tracking metrics for customer escalations, support incidents, customer-found defects and implement rigorous continuous improvement methodologies.
Strong problem-solving skills and customer focused mindset with proficiency in Agile methodologies and practices while working as a member of a feature team, contributing to feature team activities and
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Working in Life science industry and regulated environment, participating in Customer and Internal Audits and ensuring all audited work is carried out in accordance with the relevant QMS procedures.
Developing and maintaining knowledgebase resources, troubleshooting guides, and process documentation. .
Experience with cloud-native solutions and working with technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform
Experience in writing unit tests and integration tests using two or more testing tools like JUnit, Jest, Mocha, Cypress, Playwright, and Jasmine.
