About the position:
The Standard Design Engineer is part of the Project Designs Engineering Team within the Chevron ENGINE Center. This role gathers, owns, and applies Continuous Improvement Processes (CIP) to standard designs of surface systems across Chevron assets. The Standard Design Engineer develops standard designs of separation and treatment, compression, gas dehydration, metering and storage facilities for oil and gas operations.
Key responsibilities:
Assists in gathering and evaluating feedback and requested design changes from a broad range of stakeholders involved in constructing, operating, and maintaining facilities where standard designs have been deployed.
Interfaces with multiple cross-functional technical development groups and FE teams, while communicating effectively to multiple levels of an organization.
Leads, works, and communicates effectively within a multi-functional, multi-discipline team environment.
Performs process simulation, heat and material balance development, sizing calculations for all major types of process equipment, hydraulics, pressure relief and PFD and P&ID development.
Scopes, troubleshoots & implements fit-for-purpose engineering solutions to design.
Applies appropriate Chevron and industry codes and standards (e.g., Chevron Engineering Standards, ASME Section VIII, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API) and other Chevron requirements (PHA, MOC, etc.).
Provides support to operations as needed.
Participates in detailed process/mechanical design activities, including oversight of an engineering contractor as needed.
Plan, define, track, and manage a full range of facility design activities.
Evaluates and articulates tradeoffs in cost, schedule, reliability, operability, and applicability to development requirements.
Incorporates safety leadership with working knowledge in implementing process safety activities/processes (including PHAs, MOCs, TC&S, PSI, FD&C, etc.).
Develops engineering solutions which take full cognizance of safety (both personal and process) and environmental considerations.
Applies a fundamental understanding of Operational Excellence (OE) principles and experience working with operations and field personnel in development of operating procedures and standards.
Required Qualifications:
Strong technical and communication skills, able to work across functions and managing internal/external stakeholders.
Knowledge of industry standards - ASME Section VIII, B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API and other Chevron process safety requirements – PHA’s, MOC, etc.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (B.E./B.Tech.)from a deemed/recognized (AICTE) university.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ideally 5-10 years of experience in an engineering execution or consultant role within offshore, complex or LNG facilities.
Experience in systems engineering and operations throughout lifecycle of asset.
Prior experience working in multi-discipline engineering team.
Fluent in utilizing the following software – SmartPlant, HYSIS, etc.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1:30pm to 10:30pm.
