Project Overview:

Bechtel’s commitment to renewables and clean energy is driving the delivery of transformative projects for our customers. Our renewables team will manage the project lifecycle, including engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup, for the Sunfish II solar project. The project will generate 360 MW DC in Calhoun County, Michigan.

Job Summary:

The Field Engineer - Civil is responsible for overseeing the civil construction activities of a solar farm project. This includes tasks such earthwork, fencing, roadway construction, and stormwater management. In this role, you will provide comprehensive project field engineering support, including work planning and packaging, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing, and coordination of system turnover. Your efforts will ensure that field engineering activities are conducted safely, completed on time, and meet quality standards and project requirements. #LI-SP1

Major Responsibilities:

Work Planning & Packaging

  • Coordinates the preparation of construction drawings, sketches, projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements.

  • Developing installation work packages for scopes of work in support of the construction schedule.

  • Providing support to field supervision in establishing requirements for manpower, tools, equipment, and material requirements for a given work evolution.

  • Coordinate with other discipline superintendents and field engineers for interface coordination of construction work activities and plans.

Safety / Quality Control

  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

  • Reviews quality control inspections and manage associated Inspection and Test Records (ITRs).

  • Reviews excavation and backfill permits along with associated laboratory test results for density testing and gradation.

  • Ensure completed work packages and ITRs are submitted to Turnover.

Technical

  • Proactively considers continuous learning or show interest to pursue appropriate learning activities.

  • Be able to read and interpret design information including temporary facility drawings, site plans, grading drawings, underground commodity drawings, and pile layouts.

  • Review quality documentation of field installed commodities and ensure installation is in accordance with design documentation. Use GIS and Smart Completions tools to plan and document quality verifications.

  • Supports construction engineers, discipline superintendents, foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.

  • Completing final system walk-downs, deficiency tracking, and close-out.

  • Completing and reviewing as-built documentation.

System Turnover Coordinator

  • Develops firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.

  • Builds system and area turnover packages both digitally and physically for turnover to startup and client.

  • Reviews and approves inspection test plans.

  • Coordinates reviews of subcontractor submittals.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Required bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) and commitment to a Zero Incident safety program.

  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walkdowns which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs.

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of EPC and EPCM construction programs, technologies, means, and methods.

  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs), including Setroute, ArcGIS, Aconex, DSCS, Q4 Safety, Unifier, and BookBuilder.

  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.

  • Must be experienced with different earthworks, roadwork, concrete, and piling construction methods and all applicable testing requirements.

  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards such as ASTM, ACI, and ASCE.

  • Must be able to demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills to maintain a positive work environment between all parties including the client, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project life cycle
