Position Summary:
Nursing Manager is a first line manager designated as the leader for a specified program area(s), its patient population and assigned staff. As such, he/she has 24-hour responsibility and accountability for all patient care activities, unit operation, and staff function.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Uses independent judgment to exercise authority on behalf of the Medical Center, or effectively recommend such action in the following areas:
May request, recruit, interview, make hiring decisions, and perform retention activities in regard to personnel for this area;
May discipline subordinates according to Medical Center procedure;
Responsible for assigning work to employees and directing the workflow in area of jurisdiction;
Attempts to resolve employee complaints/concerns;
Conducts periodic performance appraisal interviews with subordinates;
Recommends employee advancements/wage increases to Director.
Promotes, fosters, and upholds the mission statement, vision, and values of the health system.
Activities and educational opportunities that promote attainment of organizational goals are facilitated.
- Feedback, suggestions, and recommendations related to the achievement of organizational objectives are provided.
- Fosters a safe environment in which staff are motivated and encouraged to accept challenges and opportunities for individual growth as follows:
Humanistic and/or peer-based corrective action is administered as indicated.
Outstanding professional nurses are identified and encouraged to apply to the Clinical Ladder Program.
Staff retention issues are evaluated and recruitment efforts are supported.
Collegial relationships between nursing staff, faculty of schools/colleges, and students are developed.
Individual staff progress in accountability-based problem-solving and decision-making is assessed as indicated and annually.
Staff participation in professional development activities is scheduled and monitored.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing. (Associates Degree/Diploma in nursing maybe considered
provided Bachelor’s degree in nursing is successfully completed within thirty-six (36) months of hire/transfer
Must possess current Michigan RN license
Three (3) years clinical experience
CPR issued by American Health Association or Red Cross Certification
