Supervises personnel engaged in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and/or bridge inspection. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials, private entities and/or contractors. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Analyzes and recommends approval for modifications to highway contractsAssists area engineers with construction contract administration mattersAssists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the districtConducts final inspections on completed construction projectsCoordinates with area engineers on design and plan preparationDevelops and monitors budgetInterprets laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to professional services contracting to ensure compliance with Department and governmental regulationsOversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projectsOversees data collection, analyses, forecasts and plan developmentOversees final acceptance of federally exempt construction projectsRepresents the Department at meetings, conferences, and related activities. Provides technical assistance and training to prospective applicants applying for Department jobs.Verifies project eligibility and assists with ranking projects and funding.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned,
