Duties:

The Commercial Underwriter I will understand the Bank's credit policies and procedures. Spread all types of business and personal financial statements using Baker Hill Statement Analyzer. Identify and understand the purpose of each loan request, credit structure, obligated parties, source of repayment, and collateral. Prepare written analyses for commercial loan requests for relationships or potential new credit opportunities with FCB aggregate credit exposure greater than $1,000,000. Analyze historic and projected financial statements to accurately identify, interpret, and explain trends in operating performance, financial condition, and sources of cash flow. Research industry trends and risks and compare to industry benchmarks. Perform financial analysis for new and existing commercial loan customers and prepare reports that thoroughly and accurately present findings, assess the perceived level of risk, and provide recommendations to decision makers in an understandable and easy-to-read format, including existing relationships or potential new credit opportunities with aggregate credit exposure with the Bank greater than $1,000,000. Understand and apply policy and regulatory guidelines and communicate with lending personnel to understand loan requests and obtain necessary information to complete reports.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting and/or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience

  • Prior lending, credit experience, or exposure to a lending environment preferred

  • Basic understanding of financial statements (profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow), tax returns, and financial ratios (cash flow coverage, debt-to-equity, current ratio, etc.)

  • Be a self-starter with the ability to perform detailed financial analyses with minimal supervision while effectively communicating with the Commercial Underwriting Director and lending personnnel

  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills, oral and written communication skills, and organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to react quickly in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Ability to effectively utilize computer technology with proficiency in all software applications utilized by the Bank including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Jack Henry Silverlake, and Baker Hill NextGen

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for extended periods of time
