Actalent Electrical Engineer in Blythewood, South Carolina

Job Title: Electrical EngineerJob Description

As an Electrical Engineer, you will apply electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery and control equipment. You will be responsible for identifying and maintaining inventory levels of electrical spare parts, assembling and testing experimental motor control devices, and improving production rates, quality, efficiency, and safety. You will work closely with the Engineering Area Manager and IT department to ensure equipment operations conform to OSHA specifications and to monitor and collect data.

Responsibilities

  • Apply electrical theory and related knowledge to test and modify developmental or operational electrical machinery and control equipment.

  • Identify and maintain inventory levels of electrical spare parts for the plant.

  • Assemble and test experimental motor control devices, switch panels, transformers, generator windings, solenoids, and other electrical equipment and components.

  • Modify electrical components and programs to improve production rates, quality, efficiency, and safety.

  • Diagnose cause of electrical or mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment and implement preventative and corrective maintenance.

  • Monitor overall plant electrical usage and pursue cost reductions in existing and future equipment.

  • Work with the IT department to link machines on the network to monitor and collect data; maintain data collection and visualization systems.

  • Ensure all equipment, electrical panels, transformers, and generators conform to OSHA specifications.

  • Work with the preventative maintenance system to identify potential failures and reduce unplanned production downtime.

  • Participate in training and teambuilding for the maintenance department.

  • Develop wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and engineering specifications for system modifications or expansions.

  • Maintain and control annual plant-wide backups of programmable logic controllers, CNC parameters, and machine parameters.

  • Modify electrical prototypes to correct functional deviations.

  • Be receptive to call-in work hours, both day and night.

  • Plan, direct, and record periodic electrical testing and recommend modifications or replacements of equipment.

  • Support 5-S, Kaizen Team, Koyo Production System, TS16949, and ISO14000 efforts throughout the plant.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

  • 3-5 years of related experience

  • Experience in grinding

  • Proficiency in electrical engineering within a manufacturing environment

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Plans, directs, and coordinates technical support in the area of electrical engineering

Work Environment

Work is mostly performed in a manufacturing setting (approximately 75%) and in an office setting (approximately 25%). The position requires exposure to manufacturing areas that mandate the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes, and mandatory hearing protection.
