Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Director, Military & Veteran Student Success - Boca Raton, FL

Summary of Responsibilities:

The primary function of this position is to provide guidance and direction for the overall learning experience of military and veteran students and their dependents at Florida Atlantic University. This position works directly with military and veteran students and their dependents and is responsible for developing and administering a comprehensive student success program including the distribution of benefits, removing barriers to enrollment, and supporting outreach and recruitment.

The position is responsible for ensuring compliance with the distribution of VA benefits including supervision of School Certifying Officials (SCOs). The Director maintains University regulatory compliance through the accurate processing and retention of records and coordinating updates to university documents required for governmental compliance.

  • Serves as an advocate for military & veteran students and their families at Florida Atlantic including making appropriate referrals to Dean of Students, Financial Aid, Tuition & Billing Services, and the University Ombuds.

  • Provides oversight and manages the Military and Veterans Student Success Center, including daily operations, supervision of full-time staff, FAU student employees, interns, and volunteers. They will also be responsible for the coordination of the VA Work-Study Program.

  • Interfaces with university departments to holistically support and service military and veteran students and their dependents. This includes consulting with military and veteran students regarding academic concerns, being able to recognize signs of distress and/or PTSD, assisting in the adjustment from military to civilian life, and providing appropriate referrals to university services. They are expected to communicate well with the veteran student population, including meeting with students individually and in small groups.

  • Serves as a professional resource to the larger college community regarding helpful strategies for working with military and veteran students.

  • Facilitates programs recognizing the achievements of military and veterans and their dependents while enrolled at Florida Atlantic.

  • Coordinates student affairs engagement in University-wide celebrations of military & veteran-related events.

  • Conducts ongoing research of best practices, as well as grants and funding opportunities that enhance military and veteran student services.

  • Plans, organizes, and directs activities such as: new student orientation, open houses, annual faculty and staff informational forums, student symposiums, etc.

  • Collaborates with departments/units across the University in assessing and responding to the university-wide military and veteran students and their dependents. Chairs the Student Veterans Advisory Committee and advises military and student veteran organizations.

  • Assists with the enrollment management of military & veteran students and their dependents.

  • Assesses and monitors the needs of military and veteran students and their dependents to provide programs and recommends initiatives that properly support current military and veteran student needs.

  • Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Center and its programs/services. Maintains current and accurate data on outreach/recruitment initiatives, military and veteran student inquiries, faculty/staff inquiries related to military and veteran students, usage rates of Military and Veterans Student Success Resource Center, and participation rates in Military and Veterans Student Success sponsored or co-sponsored events.

  • Supports performance-based metrics for the University, including retention, timely graduation, and career placement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Administrative skills including Microsoft Office.

Supervisory experience; working with VA outreach programs.

Audit & Compliance.

Salary:

$70,000 - $75,000 per year
