Director, Physician Contracting and Provider Services, Saint Alphonsus Medical Group has overall accountability for the development, assessment, and administration of all Saint Alphonsus (with support to Trinity West region, Saint Agnes) provider compensation models and management.

This position will include oversight for all Saint Alphonsus compensation plan design for new and existing primary care and specialty providers and ensuring that all plans are well-documented with clear information and instruction regarding payment formulas, timing and other relevant information to support accurate and timely administration of compensation models and physician employment contract administration. This leader will ensure the development, approval and implementation, of compensation models for primary care, specialists, and advanced-practice providers.

The Director, Physician Services advises and supports all related compensation plans to meet FMV standards in collaboration with SAMG Executive Medical Directors for the contract development and management for medical group and hospital associated physician contracts. In addition to the Saint Alphonsus Medical group, this leader will support the Trinity West Region CEO, to include Saint Alphonsus Hospital Presidents, and to provide consultative support Saint Agnes Medical Group.

The Director, Physician Contracting and Provider Services works with the recruitment team and onboarding colleagues to develop, negotiate, implement, and monitor outcomes for the physician contractual agreements for Saint Alphonsus Medical Group that are mutually beneficial to the provider and the medical group.

The position tracks contract renewals and amendments and negotiates and obtains approvals for each. The position is also involved in quality metric management. The position has a keen understanding of health care providers and institutions within Idaho and Oregon, and the state and federal legal and regulatory requirements relating to physician contracting and compensation.

The position will work with SAMG's and Trinity Health's team in finance and in legal services, Saint Alphonsus General Counsel, third party consultants, and the SAMG Executive Medical Directors. Ongoing support and engagement between Provider Services and Medical Group operations is expected to include practice managers and operations directors to ensure optimal provider support.

The Director, Physician Contracting and Provider Services will have leadership responsibility and accountability for the SAMG Provider Services Team . This multifunctional team includes direct supervision of contracting/compensation, and onboarding/offboarding. The Provider Services team is intended to provide comprehensive, wrap-around, concierge support to Saint Alphonsus Medical Group physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to enable high performing medical group clinical practices to meet the community need for the patients we serve.

Provider Services will include oversight of onboarding, and offboarding staff, along with matrixed multidisciplinary team collaboration with of provider recruiting, human resources, physician liaisons, and medical staff office personnel.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

  • BA/BS with emphasis in Business, Finance, or Health Care Management. MBA preferred

  • Minimum of ten years of experience in contract administration and compensation modeling

  • Experience in the health care industry with physician contracting and compensation modeling

  • In depth understanding of regulatory requirements related to provider contracting.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills and experience

  • Minimum of five years of leadership experience as a director or above

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :

Advanced ability to analyze data, identify trends, and incorporate benchmark data to develop and communicate fact-based conclusions. Ability to understand and execute a variety of compensation and benefit models to provide incentives for physicians that fulfill the desired behaviors and work product.

Ability to work across all levels of the organization for negotiating contracts including Physicians, attorneys, and business leaders.

Ability to work in a multi-state, matrix leadership and management model.

Coordinates with executive leadership team (SAMG and Hospital Presidents, SAHS CMO and SAMG EMDs, VP Finance, Operations, CHRO) on all aspects of existing and future provider compensation programs.

Oversees and directs all activities related to the timely, accurate and complete preparation of all Physician and APP compensation for the organization.

Manages the design, development and implementation of new compensation programs, as well as compensation models needed for Mergers and Acquisitions activity.

Leads implementation of compensation programs for new practices via Mergers and Acquisitions activity. Maintains oversight for Physician and APP compensation program; ensures timely and effective resolution of issues; provides guidance and support for each RHMs Medical Group Compensation Committee regarding updates or changes to relevant policies and/or compensation models.

Supports the Medical Group President and CMO with administration of Physician contracts and APP offer letters, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, execution and organization of contracts and offer letters.

Works with Operational and Service Line Leaders, assists with and/or conducts Medical Director and physician leadership training regarding Physician and APP compensation program to ensure understanding of practice and individual provider compensation results; communicates with providers directly or in collaboration RHM leaders when questions regarding individual compensation arise.

Serves on Medical Group Senior Leadership Team and other leadership meetings, as applicable. Will communicate regularly and as needed with Medical Group and Hospital President about any compliance concerns or demonstrable changes in physician or provider compensation.

Management Responsibilities: Manages assigned staff - hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, corrective action and terminating staff. Manages team and department functions and the work of assigned staff including the monitoring of staff competencies, hiring of new staff, orientation of new assignments, developing goals and objectives, conducting annual performance appraisal and the utilization of performance resolution process when needed. Reviews annual staff satisfaction reports with President, SAMG; develops, implements, and monitors ongoing improvement plans.

Fiscal and Legal Responsibilities: Accountable for the thorough analysis and report-out of all relevant Physician and APP Compensation, assures compliance with federal, state and safety regulations and ensures alignment with the medical group’s policy and procedure.

Responsible for development, assessment, and administration of all SAMG and assigned RHM provider compensation models. This will include compensation plan design for new and existing primary care and specialty providers.

Ensure all plans are well documented with clear information and instruction regarding payment formulas, timing, and other relevant information to support accurate and timely administration of each compensation model.

Manage and interprets service agreements with the RHM hospitals (to include employed, independent, and PSA arrangements); determines available compensation pools by provider type and evaluates funds flow regarding the financial relationship.

Gather requested data, analyzes, models, and prepares reports as requested by Operations leadership to provide sufficient information to support effective operational decisions regarding office provider compensation.

Partner with the Office of General Counsel (OGC) and SAMG Administration in determining the standardized items in the employment contracts. Coordinate with the third-party compensation consultants and OGC to assess fair market value of compensation.

Able to present to and negotiate with physicians about compensation models.

Able to implement compensation models by clearly communicating the terms of the agreement and assist the provider in on-boarding to SAMG.

Provide analysis and monitoring of provider productivity relative to compensation to assure balance between the two, and to assure good stewardship of SAHS resources.

Monitor contract renewals and plans to ensure that work is started timely. Negotiate with the physicians on contract renewals and receives approval and implements the renewed agreements.
