We’re currently seeking qualified applicants for both the Lead and Senior-level Industrial Mechanic p ositions at the Lander St. Water Renewal Facility. Depending on the position, each role:

  • Performs lead or senior journey-level maintenance on a wide variety of complex mechanical systems in advanced water renewal (wastewater treatment) facilities and other public works utilities.

  • Acts as a technical lead and expert while completing complex repairs and projects.

  • Installs, operates, repairs and troubleshoots industrial equipment.

  • Operates and maintains light, medium and heavy equipment.

  • Provides in-the-field oversight and direction to the industrial mechanic team.

  • Works 4- 10 hour shifts

  • This position works under limited supervision.

Industrial Mechanic Senior starting rate: $24.51 - 27.39 DOE

Industrial Mechanic Lead starting rate: $27.21 - 30.41 DOE

Essential Functions

Lead: Coordinates day-to-day work, delegates tasks and sets deadlines for assigned team. Provides leadership, coaching and/or mentoring to a subordinate group. Reviews work of team, ensures effective collaboration with other teams and listens to team members' input and feedback and resolves any issues or conflict.

Senior: Handles complex issues and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff, is capable of performing all duties of a Industrial Mechanic - PW, and provides leadership, coaching , and/or mentoring to a subordinate group, as needed

Plans, performs and/or oversees advanced corrective and preventive mechanical maintenance, repair, replacement, installation and operation of wastewater process equipment. Repairs, modifies and rebuilds worn or damaged equipment. Performs complex mechanical troubleshooting, repairs, rebuilding, installation, pipe fitting, plumbing, welding and fabrication. Operates and trains the use of light, medium and heavy hand, pneumatic and electric tools, chain pull hoists, power saws, forklifts and overhead cranes.

Acts as lead on large and complex projects. Informs supervisor or manager of issues and delays to work schedule and offers suggestions and solutions. Partners with operations staff as needed during work planning and execution.

Performs and/or oversees advanced design and fabrication of complex mechanical systems. Welds and cuts parts and accessories utilizing welders, torches and a wide array of hand and power tools. Operates and maintains advance shop fabrication tools, lathes, presses and milling machines. Works with all types of metals, wood, fiberglass and plastic materials.

Utilizes computer programs to enter data and create maintenance records to ensure compliance with local, state and federal rules, regulations and laws. Reads and interprets blueprints and technical manuals to research and order parts and equipment.

Reviews design documents, industry publications and equipment specifications to advise and make recommendations on equipment selection. Leads evaluation and establishment of maintenance standards and safety procedures. Partners with facilities management to identify maintenance needs and coordinate complex maintenance projects.

Attends and completes assigned training as required to ensure compliance with city policy, state and federal regulations and maintains professional licensing and certification.

Provides training on wastewater equipment and processes. Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work environment. Performs safety checks and assists in planning, implementing and maintaining preventative maintenance programs. Stops work if safety concerns arise and notifies supervisor or manager. Reports to facilities in the case of an emergency to assess the situation and to perform repairs or correctives to get the plant back online and operating in a timely manner before breaking permits.

Lead: Estimates project timelines, resources requirements and material cost utilizing appropriate bids and quotes.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent and

  • Senior position requires 4 years of experience conducting journeyman-level industrial maintenance and mechanical work, troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, installing and pipe fitting, or

  • Lead position requires 6 years of experience conducting journeyman-level industrial maintenance and mechanical work, troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, installing and pipe fitting, or

  • an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Knowledge of:

  • appropriate use of lock out/tag out safety procedures;

  • relevant occupational hazards and standard safety precautions; principles on high and low voltage electrical systems;

  • pipe fitting, welding and fabricating practices;

  • shop geometry;

  • engines, pumps, valves, compressors, generators, boilers, electrical circuits and process instrumentation;

  • asset management and preventative maintenance software;

  • design input and implementation systems; and

  • computer usage including related software.

Ability to:

  • operate mills, lathes, MIG and TIG welders and plasma cutters;

  • read, interpret and apply relevant OSHA regulations and guidelines, blueprints and technical manuals;

  • operate heavy machinery and equipment;

  • operate a computer and basic programs;

  • learn and utilize new computer programs;

  • utilize all tools in an industrial setting;

  • report to facilities in the case of an emergency;

  • work a rotating on-call shift;

  • understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations;

  • maintain prompt and regular attendance;

  • lead a small team, outline daily activities and coordinate projects;

  • communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and

  • perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Lead position: 10 years of experience in an industrial plant or 5 years of experience in wastewater treatment or other related industrial facility; 2 years of experience leading a small team; and 2 years of experience with asset/maintenance management software.

  • Senior position: 6 years of experience in an industrial plant or 4 years of experience in wastewater treatment or other related industrial facility.

  • Wastewater Treatment Operator Class I license and a clear understanding of wastewater process.

  • 4-5 years of experience in welding, metal fabrication, pipefitting and/or HVAC.

  • Ability to effectively research, scope, execute, and complete complex maintenance, repair, and installation projects timely and with minimal adverse impacts to water treatment processes.

Licensing And Other Requirements

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.

  • Ability to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class I or Operator-in-Training (OIT) license within six months of employment.

  • Lead is required to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class II license within six months of meeting Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses eligibility requirements.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is always lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds, occasionally lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds and rarely lifting/carrying up to 100 pounds. Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures, in wet and humid conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases or other airborne matter. Employees are exposed to mechanical and electrical hazards, work in/at heights and confined spaces. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to infectious bacteria, bodily fluids and chemicals. Employees work on stairs and uneven surfaces, near open tanks and ditches, in industrial areas; are exposed to hydraulic and vehicle hazards, and insects and atmospheric hazards; are subject to slip hazards caused from ice/snow in winter, wet floors, uneven and undeveloped work surfaces. Exposure to sewage, methane, hydrogen sulfide and other possible toxic gases and substances.

This position works: Shift work, rotating on-call schedule, and reports to the facility in times or emergencies, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays as required. Work may be performed/assigned at any of the city's public works' facilities. May work at remote or isolated facilities a considerable distance from supporting resources.
