Idaho Power — headquartered in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a Planning Analyst to join our Information Technology team.

What does a Planning Analyst do for us?

The Planning Analyst works in a processed-based environment and performs economic and statistical research, fundamental analysis, forecasting and computer modeling.

This role has a non-exempt entry level position while the analyst and senior levels are exempt. Wage is as follows:

Entry : $29.86 -$37.33 - Non-Exempt

Analyst/Senior : $77,646.40-$116,875.20 – Exempt

REQUIRED SKILLS

Entry Analyst:

Knowledge of:

  • Competent professional who possesses, interprets, and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures of statistics, analysis, and data handling

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of regulated utilities and regulatory processes

  • Ability to apply to business issues. Understanding of inter-related utility functions and departments

Skills in:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Advanced use of personal computers and software

  • Skills in handling large data sets from disparate sources, multi-dimensional modeling tools, procedural programming, and techniques for data analysis

Ability to:

  • Perform analytical research and effectively prepare, present, and defend analysis of data

  • Use enterprise thinking to solve analytical problems

  • Work effectively with other departments and personnel

  • Work effectively in a team environment

  • Prepare and conduct effective presentations

Analyst:

Knowledge of:

Preferred:

  • Utility planning, computer modeling

Skills in:

  • Managing and coordinating multiple projects

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others

  • Analysis and forecasting

  • Computer modeling

  • Communicating effectively with others

  • Continuous learning

Preferred:

  • Microsoft Application Scripting, Computer programming, and data management and reporting

Ability to:

  • Develop alternatives and evaluate their probability of occurrence

  • Work some overtime as required by the workload

  • Work and communicate effectively with Idaho Power internal customers, regulatory agencies, industry peers and energy project developers

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Entry Analyst:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, or related field

OR

  • An equivalent of formal education and work experience

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a related field

Experience:

  • N/A

Preferred:

  • 2 years of professional analytical experience in planning and optimization, modeling and forecasting, or engineering

Analyst:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, or related field

OR

  • An equivalent of formal education and work experience

Preferred:

  • Advanced degree in a related field

Experience:

  • 2 years of professional analytical experience in planning and optimization, modeling and forecasting, or engineering

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in above fields or equivalent of formal education and work experience a plus

  • 5 or more years of professional level work performing and presenting forecasting, economic, load research and/or statistical analysis

  • Electric utility experience

  • Working knowledge of Oracle OLAP, Phython, R, Stata, C++, LodeStar, MV90, SAS, SQLServer, MetrixND, Meter Data Management, WireVision, and GIS

Senior Analyst:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, or related field

OR

  • An equivalent of formal education and work experience

Experience:

  • 5 years of professional analytical experience in planning and optimization, modeling and forecasting, or engineering

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in above fields or equivalent of formal education and work experience a plus

  • 5 years of Utility experience performing and presenting forecasting, economic, load research and/or statistical analysis

  • Working knowledge of Oracle OLAP, Phython, R, Stata, C++, LodeStar, MV90, SAS, SQLServer, MetrixND, Meter Data Management, WireVision, and GIS

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people.
