Department Description:Nurses on Farr 8 care for patients who have just undergone cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafts, valve replacements and repairs, and complex aortic procedures. The patients are transferred from the intensive care unit on post-operative day one. On Farr 8, the nurses provide comprehensive care which prepares these patients for discharge to home or a rehabilitation facility as early as postoperative day four. Nurses on Farr 8 also care for thoracic surgery and cardiology patients. In June 2016, we moved to a beautiful 20 bed, all private room combined intermediate care and med-surg unit on Farr 8, where we care for our cardiac and thoracic surgery populations, as well as complex cardiology patients. We will be moving to our state-of-the-art new inpatient building in March, 2023.
As a Clinical Nurse I, you will be automatically enrolled in our Transition to Practice: Nurse Residency Program. This program consists of a 12-month curriculum designed to complement and enhance your unit-based, precepted clinical orientation. Together, these elements empower newly licensed nurses to successfully transition into clinical practice, using a structured, evidence-based approach. The curriculum is a blend of monthly seminars in a classroom setting and hands-on precepted work experiences. The monthly seminar sessions are presented by expert facilitators that will help you develop critical thinking skills and hone your clinical competence. Didactic presentations are blended with opportunities for you to reflect on your own clinical experiences and to receive feedback and guidance as you chart your professional growth.
