Why this role matters

This is a senior technical expert role in Research and Network Strategy providing the technical insight and architectural oversight necessary to assemble future technical capabilities in a unified lab research environment available for all research teams to make use of and contribute to as well as academic and industry partners to prove their technology on BT’s environment. This role is responsible for designing, delivering and managing the end to end research platform contributing to the overall research programme, as well as driving ecosystem with academia and external partners to showcase technology innovation aligned with BT strategic direction.

This role is based in Bristol or Ipswich.

Our hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week.

You'll have the following responsibilities

• Domain expert responsible for a team of experienced engineers contributing to the delivery of the RaNS end to end research platform environment.

• Accountable for building and running the end to end research platform environment and managing novel research projects delivering business value and contributing to the BT’s research goals.

• Managing key stakeholder relationships across BT (e.g. network strategy and architecture, other testing and innovation environments), as well as externally (e.g. vendor partnerships) to partner, align and influence future technical developments.

• Responsible for the development and delivery of the E2E Research platform, working in collaboration with Business unit including coordination of people resource and projects using the end to end research platform environment.

• Identify potential collaboration and monetisation opportunities of the research platform.

• Managing budgets relating to the E2E Research platform.

• Accountable for security, data governance and overall test environments for the research platform and Research and Network Strategy research labs.

You'll have the following skills and experience

Skills

• Storytelling with data: strong skills in building the case for change, drawing on data and analytical techniques where appropriate, and communicating this to business audiences. (MANDATORY)

• Strategy Development - Identifies strategic opportunities through researching and analysing market and organisation performance and trends, decides how resources will be allocated across the organisation to achieve objectives. (MANDATORY)

• Business acumen & insights: Sets and implements strategies that balance commercial and people priorities across multiple functions by improving financial performance, organizational performance and managing business in a commercially viable way. (MANDATORY)

• Horizon scanning - Detects early signs of potentially important developments through a systematic examination of potential threats and opportunities, with emphasis on new technology. (MANDATORY)

• Technical domain expert : Considerable (10+ years) experience successfully pioneering new and emerging network systems technologies, with breadth and depth of knowledge across a range of technologies in data, compute, and network infrastructure, and software domains. (MANDATORY)

• Solution and results driven : Strong evidence for solution design and delivery. (Mandatory)

Experience

• Proven track record of building lab environments (MANDATORY)

• Detailed technical knowledge of lab engineering, cloudification and conterisation, APIs, test design and execution (MANDATORY).

• Experience with test scripting design and delivering. (MANDATORY)

• Experience with collaboration projects test environment (MANDATORY)

• Proven experience/Understanding of TM Forum Catalyst projects (MANDATORY)

• Track record working in Telecommunication industry with operators, suppliers, academia (MANDATORY)

• Proven track record of managing security and data governance in test environment (MANDATORY)

• Proven record of organisational and project planning skills (MANDATORY)

• Experience in managing several priorities (MANDATORY)

A degree-level qualification is required.

Post-graduate qualifications are highly desirable.

Member of a professional body e.g. Institution of Engineering and Technology (PREFERRED)
