ThermoFisher Scientific Intern Scientist for AT Operation group in Brno, Czech Republic

Job Description

DISCOVER IMPACTFUL WORK:

Charged particle optics, electron and ion guns, focusing columns, and high-brightness sources are at the heart of Thermo Fisher Scientific's Electron Microscope (EM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB), and DualBeam tools serving the Nanotechnology market. We seek an intern to assist in the initiation, design, IP analysis in various development projects.

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

Every intern in our group will be assigned a PhD scientist to mentor them. Our goal is to develop your scientific skill while completing active research in our lab and analytics. Activities will include one or more of the following tasks as determined by project priorities as well as intern capabilities and interests. Interns trained by us develop valuable high-tech skills and unique knowledge in the area of electron emission.

THEORETICAL WORK AND EXPERIMENTS:

  • The majority of our work involves theoretical work and analysis. In typical work, you will learn to use final element analytical tools: charge particle optics (EOD, CST, etc.) and IP analytics SW. You will occasionally work in the TEM lab too. Examples of activities:

    • Running computer simulations on charged particle designs
    • Using our TEMs or SEMs to image and perform sample analysis

DEVELOPMENT, ANALYSIS AND REPORTING RESULTS:

  • The key to becoming a good scientist is the ability to analyze and communicate results with the advanced technology groups we work with. You will be developing your skill to present work accurately and concisely, and will present at one of our internal seminars. Examples of development activities include:

    • Analyze experimental data e.g. to determine optimal performance from emitter characteristics
    • Assist in development of data acquisition and analysis software e.g. curve fitting, regression, image processing
    • Prepare input data for higher management about analyzed subjects

FROM RESEARCH TO REALITY:

Finally, while our group is responsible for research into the next generation of product, we also attend to the real-world efforts to get product out the door. Production of emitters still requires deep thinking to troubleshoot and/or optimize standard operating procedures. Our group's work with operations allows us to influence and protect revenue for the company.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry, math, computer science or related fields.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

    • Proficient with using general laboratory equipment
    • Proficient with standard office computer programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.)
    • Proficient with using IP searching SW and analytic tools.
    • Solid understanding of fundamental experimental methods.

LOCATION/DIVISION SPECIFIC INFORMATION

  • This internship is on-site in working labs at Brno, Czech Republic.
