Job Summary:

 

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all sawmill equipment, ensuring maximum uptime, safety, and operational efficiency. This role involves managing a team of maintenance personnel, developing preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Maintenance Operations

 

  • Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
  • Supervise maintenance staff, providing leadership, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in sawmill equipment.
  • Ensure all machinery and equipment operate at peak efficiency through timely repairs and upgrades.
  • Work closely with production managers to schedule maintenance work with minimal disruption to operations.

Team Leadership & Development

 

  • Recruit, train, and mentor maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Ensure staff adhere to safety protocols and maintenance best practices.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to enhance team efficiency.

Safety & Compliance

 

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and other regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation for audits and inspections.

  • Conduct safety training and enforce proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Implement initiatives to improve workplace safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

Budget & Inventory Management

 

  • Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
  • Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and equipment to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Work with suppliers and vendors to source high-quality parts at the best value.

Continuous Improvement & Projects

 

  • Lead capital improvement projects related to equipment upgrades and facility enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in maintenance operations.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry technologies and trends to enhance sawmill performance.

Qualifications & Requirements:

 

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of maintenance experience in a sawmill, lumber processing, or heavy industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of sawmill machinery, including saws, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC systems.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-production environment.

Work Environment:

 

  • Exposure to loud noise, dust, and fluctuating temperatures in an industrial setting.
  • Requires standing, climbing, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • Must be available for on-call emergencies and occasional weekend work.
