Job Summary:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all sawmill equipment, ensuring maximum uptime, safety, and operational efficiency. This role involves managing a team of maintenance personnel, developing preventive maintenance programs, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Operations
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs to minimize downtime.
- Supervise maintenance staff, providing leadership, training, and performance evaluations.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems in sawmill equipment.
- Ensure all machinery and equipment operate at peak efficiency through timely repairs and upgrades.
- Work closely with production managers to schedule maintenance work with minimal disruption to operations.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, and mentor maintenance personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Ensure staff adhere to safety protocols and maintenance best practices.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching to enhance team efficiency.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and other regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation for audits and inspections.
- Conduct safety training and enforce proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Implement initiatives to improve workplace safety and reduce the risk of accidents.
Budget & Inventory Management
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Maintain an inventory of critical spare parts and equipment to prevent unplanned downtime.
- Work with suppliers and vendors to source high-quality parts at the best value.
Continuous Improvement & Projects
- Lead capital improvement projects related to equipment upgrades and facility enhancements.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in maintenance operations.
- Stay updated with the latest industry technologies and trends to enhance sawmill performance.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of maintenance experience in a sawmill, lumber processing, or heavy industrial setting.
- Strong knowledge of sawmill machinery, including saws, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and PLC systems.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills with mechanical and electrical systems.
- Proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-production environment.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, and fluctuating temperatures in an industrial setting.
- Requires standing, climbing, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
- Must be available for on-call emergencies and occasional weekend work.
