As part of the Studio Entertainment segment of The Walt Disney Company (TWDC), Disney Music Group (DMG) serves as the central hub for music within TWDC, overseeing all facets of music monetization. This includes Recorded Music (Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records), Disney Music Publishing, and Disney Concerts. DMG distributes music in both physical and digital formats and licenses it globally across various media, including television, print, gaming, and consumer products.
The primary responsibility of this position is financial planning, analysis, and reporting for DMG’s Music Publishing and Licensing businesses. Additional responsibilities will also include providing analytical and data support to drive business development, various business analyses, and ad hoc projects. This position is ideal for a candidate who possesses strong analytical and technical capabilities and is looking to build process management skills. Across all responsibilities, this Senior Financial Analyst role will be challenged to develop and improve processes and models. This role will report directly to the Finance Manager for Disney Music Group.
DUTIES:
Responsible for the compilation and analysis of the Annual Operating Plan (AOP), quarterly Forecasts & close, and 5-Year Strategic Planning for the Music Publishing and Licensing businesses
Collaborate closely with Licensing team, to develop forecasts and track financial performance
Partner with Music Publishing team on pipeline / writer profitability analyses
Work with Accounting team during quarter-end close to provide variance explanations
Drive process improvement by collaborating with Technology teams to enhance and automate financial processes / continue to build upon the data lake for Music Publishing
Demonstrate confidence and curiosity in analyzing large datasets using systems such as SAP, Cognos, Business Objects, and Tableau, while showcasing enthusiasm for data aggregation and visualization tools like Alteryx and Power BI/Power Query
Conduct ad-hoc reporting and analysis for various DMG business verticals as needed
QUALIFICATIONS:
2-5 years of finance or accounting experience, with a strong interest in the entertainment/music industry
Proven relationship-building skills, with the ability to navigate problems autonomously and diplomatically
Excellent communication and leadership abilities, paired with a constructive curiosity to drive change
Flexibility in responsibilities to adapt to the evolving music industry landscape
Ability to understand complex contracts and decipher financial terms within the agreements
Ability to manage multiple high priority projects under tight deadlines
Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Proficient in Excel for financial modeling and analysis
Experience in enterprise level systems such as SAP, Cognos, Business Objects, Tableau, Alteryx, or similar systems
Solid working knowledge of key accounting principles
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or accounting
The hiring range for this position in California is $103,400 - $126,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
