Job Description
Ditchrider
The Ditchrider position is intended to manage water flow and gravity
irrigation deliveries for their assigned area during the irrigation
season. Ditchriders will join the maintenance staff during the winter
months. This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
Requirements:
Excellent communication skills
Good organizational skills
Solid decision-making skills
Motivated self-starter
Possess general math skills
Pass pre-employment drug test and random testing thereafter
Have a clean driving record
Operate District vehicles
Vehicle provided during the irrigation season
Vehicles to be treated per District Vehicle Policy
Obtain a Class A CDL drivers license, with air endorsement within first
year of employment
Permit must be obtained within 90 days of employment
Future endorsements/licenses may apply
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
Ability to work long hours and perform strenuous labor at required times
Work in and around waterways (often at high flows)
Communicate with patrons on a company provided phone
Must be on call and work 7 days/week
Day to Day Functions Include (but are not limited to):
Take water calls and delivery orders each day and evening
Report water orders to Superintendent daily
Monitor system and water delivery status daily
Turn delivery gates on and off as requested
Adjust operational flows as needed/allowed
Clear debris from weed racks
Clear debris and blockages in various waterways
Repair structures and irrigation infrastructure
Placing or removing check boards
Monitor water flows with electronic equipment
Rodent control and trapping (gophers, beavers, etc.)
Ditchbank repairs
Trim or remove trees and growth from easements
Take water user calls for floods and other delivery related questions
Assist water users with determining system operation
Respond to emergency water related matters
Develop work order list for repairs
Operate heavy equipment as determined by Maintenance Foreman
Basic construction
Building concrete forms
Pouring concrete
Hand digging
Jack hammering
Pipe installation and replacement
Painting
Sand blasting
Burning weeds
General maintenance and repair of the shop/office building/facilities
Monitor and service pumps, wells, and other pumping equipment
Measure water to ensure proper delivery
Monitor and report aquatic weed growth that may impair proper water flow
Assist with chemical treatments
Assist Ditchriders or other staff with tasks
Perform vehicle and equipment maintenance and other shop duties as
assigned
Ditchriders are on-call and work 7 days/week during the irrigation
season
