Your Opportunity
Our Environmental Services Group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in atmospheric sciences, acoustics and vibration, marine biology, wetland science, wildlife biology, soil science, fisheries biology, botany, hydrogeology, hydrology, forestry, habitat and ecosystem restoration, permitting, GIS, and Information Management. We help our clients to identify and respond to opportunities and threats within constantly changing regulatory and corporate environments, through active engagement with the public, stakeholder groups, and governmental regulators.
Stantec’s Environmental Services Practice is currently seeking a full/part-time senior Noise and Vibration Specialist located in our Calgary office. Our Noise and Vibration Specialists provide specialized services to a wide variety of sectors including industry, government, architecture, transportation, and buildings. Our practitioners offer a full suite of services including permitting, monitoring, modeling, planning, policy studies, design, and control. In addition to noise related work, our Atmospheric Science group provides services such as air quality impact assessments, air dispersion modelling, air emission inventories, ambient air quality data analysis, air monitoring network design, and hazard and risk assessment.
Your Key Responsibilities
Complete noise impact assessments, conduct and supervise sound and vibration measurements on-site including noise source characterization, data processing and analysis noise modelling, mitigation, and reporting
Provide assistance and supervision to other team members in field work and in the preparation of reports, proposals, marketing materials, and/or technical papers, and coordinate with project teams (internal and external)
Lead and support the noise/acoustic business development work, including but not limited to client liaison, proposal development, market search, etc
Provide quality review and independent review for noise projects technical content and deliverables
Excellent communication (written / verbal), strategic thinking, negotiation, presentation, and people skills
Lead meetings and workshops with clients, including preparing and carrying out presentations
Knowledge of building acoustics, mechanical HVAC noise control design, industrial buildings and vibration isolation is required. Candidates with a strong mechanical noise background are preferred
Experience with sound and vibration measurement instruments and modeling software (, CADNA / A, TNM, Stamina, STAMSON, INSUL, EASE, ODEON etc.) would be an asset
Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineer of Alberta or other Canadian provinces is an asset
Willingness for occasional travel, within Canada or internationally
Qualifications
Your Qualifications and Credentials
Demonstrated strength in verbal and written communication
Strong team player and ability to manage multiple projects
Experience conducting field monitoring or data collection
Knowledge of sound and vibration measurement instruments (i.e., Larson Davis, B&K) is beneficial
Strong analytical skills with noise modelling software (i.e., Cadna/A, Predictor, SoundPlan)
Experience with theoretical estimation of equipment sound power level in noise assessment
Understanding of provincial and federal regulatory requirements and guidelines
Education and Experience
Post-secondary education in engineering or physics
More than 15 years consulting experience in building acoustics, noise control, environmental noise, and/or vibration
A valid driver’s license is required
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
