    Job Description

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT) GENERALIST 1, Mathematics, to analyze and resolve departmental IT hardware, software, network, and/or security issues for end-users running a wide range of operating systems. Responsibilities will include providing infrastructure support, maintenance, and operations for IT systems, hardware, and software; installing, configuring, and updating hardware, software, and networks; responding to, tracking, and documenting technical issues received via helpdesk, phone calls, and/or walk-in traffic; providing a high standard of customer service; creating accounts and configuring software/hardware as part of the onboarding process; resolving audiovisual equipment issues; training end-users on software and equipment; participating on the department’s IT Oversight Committee; creating/maintaining knowledge base articles for common help desk issues; monitoring and communicating system status to management; running reports; creating and maintaining technical documentation; ensuring accurate inventory records; collaborating on upgrade planning and budgeting; backing up consulting systems coordinators; helping administer the Applied Mathematics Computational Laboratory, including servers running Fedora and parallel computational technologies; and supporting a Linux cluster and computational servers.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: high school diploma or its equivalent; three years’ experience supporting hybrid Windows and Macintosh environments; advanced-level knowledge of IT standards/policies; customer service focus; ability to address a broad spectrum of user's computer needs; experience with UNIX/Linux, maintaining servers and end-user workstations, HTML, and a LAMP environment; experience supporting Mac OSx and Windows; and participation in training to keep up with the position’s evolving demands. PREFERRED: bachelor’s degree in a related field; experience with QuickBase implementation; knowledge of Mac OSx and Windows administration software (e.g., Microsoft Azure and Jamf DEP); and working knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, CUPS print server, Samba, NFS, Postfix, Dovecot, and SALT.
