Primary Duties

  • Act as primary point of contact for publications issues for assigned products in immunology Franchise

  • Define publication strategy with Global Medical Affairs stakeholders for one or more publication assets/projects

  • Develop and implement strategic and in-year tactical publication plans for one or more publication projects

  • Support the definition, development and implementation of an integrated, compliant, fit-for-purpose publication management platform across Global Medical Teams

  • Collaborate with agencies, societies, KOLs and journals to execute publication plans

  • Provide support to map, establish and manage relationships with key publication bodies

  • Track and report Global Publications performance

  • Direct management of at least one Publications Lead

Responsibilities

Job Function and Description

Develop publication strategy and implement Global Publication Plans for one or more publication projects

  • Act as point person for Head of Scientific Publications, Therapeutic Area and GMA leadership for publication related issues and opportunities for products in immunology

  • Develop and manage product/disease area Global Publication Strategies and Plans in coordination with relevant Global Medical Teams

  • Works with GMA TA Head to align publication plans across TA

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement project publication plans

  • Manage specific publication project budget

  • Manage vendors budgets and contracts

  • Collaborate with societies, external authors and journals in planning, integration and execution of medical publication activities

  • Manage Publication Lead(s) within the Therapeutic Area

  • Review publication drafts for scientific quality and to ensure alignment & consistency with Compliance/ Legal

  • Manage external and internal authors to ensure timely execution and delivery of publications

  • Promote and support good publication practices and principles among authors and internal publication stakeholder community ensuring high scientific quality & alignment with Compliance/Legal requirements

  • Collaborate with Global Medical Communications and relevant Global Medical and International Medical teams to plan medical participation at multi-products/disease area congresses, symposia and events

Track and report Global Publications metrics

  • Track Global Publications metrics and provide reports to Head of Scientific Publications as required

  • Track timely delivery and execute initiatives to improve quality and efficiency

  • Ensure and communicate regular updates to relevant key stakeholders to facilitate ongoing functional and regional planning and inform dependencies

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A higher education degree (M.D., Pharm.D., Ph.D.) is preferred; Master degree in biomedical discipline or equivalent with experience in publication management is considered

  • 10-14 years of experience within medical affairs (e.g. Publications/Scientific Writing, Medical Information, Medical Communications, Medical Education), 8 years of which with direct publications experience

  • Keen understanding of good publication practice is a must. CMPP certification is encouraged

  • Familiarity with regulatory and legal guidelines regarding publication planning strategy and execution

  • Experience managing medical communications agencies is preferred

Internal and External Contacts

  • Position is accountable to Head of Scientific Publications for line management responsibilities and to the Global Medical Team and/or therapy for area alignment

  • Internal: Medical Therapeutic Area Teams, International Medical Affairs Team, Medical Communications, Medical Information, Regulatory, Compliance, Legal, Clinical

  • External: Medical societies, authors, journals, medical communications agencies

Other Job Requirements

  • Availability to travel approximately 20% of time

  • Availability to participate in early or late meetings/teleconferences.
