City of Cambridge, MD Marina Service Assistant in Cambridge, Maryland

This is an unskilled manual labor position involving a variety of indoor/outdoor maintenance tasks in and around the Municipal Marina, as well as direct interaction with patrons of the marina. The employee receives assignments orally or in writing and work is usually performed under the supervision of the Marina Branch Head. Work involves the use of manual tools and small power tools and equipment. This is a "Classified, Safety-Sensitive" position. __ POSITION DESCRIPTION Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing administrative and operational functions in support of the marina. Reports to the Marina Branch Head. The Marina Service Assistant typically handles various tasks related to marina operation. Below are some common responsibilities. This list is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities for the Marina Service Assistant. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (Includes, but not limited to): ? Performs basic maintenance of the marina facilities such as: installing deck boards, changing light bulbs and painting, wiring, power/water pedestals, various plumbing equipment, water pipes and faucets. ? Monitors marina and boats for problems and safety hazards, updates central maintenance software and alerts appropriate supervisory personnel. ? Interacts with the marina patrons, the public, and others outside the work unit to obtain and provide information and assistance in a variety of circumstances; screens and responds to inquiries and complaints; provides information on policies and procedures. ? Ensures proper use of fuel dock, secures and assists transient marine vessels. ? Receives and logs payments from fuel sales and slip rentals. ? Assist in preparation of various financial and operational management reports. ? Cleans municipal parking lots and the Marina shower rooms. ? Repairs and replaces Marina signs. ? Waters and fertilizes grass and shrubs and sprays insecticides and weed killers. ? Uses common hand tools and small power-operated tools and equipment. ? Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : ? Graduation from high school or GED. ? Ability to read and write and some mechanical aptitude. ? Some knowledge of common hand tools and small power-operated tools and equipment. ? Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions. ? Good physical condition and ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions. ? Ability to communicate well and work cooperatively, harmoniously with others. ? Available to work evening hours and weekends during boating season (May 1 st - October 31 st ). ? Available for call-back in the event of emergencies. ? Required basic knowledge of: Marina operations, customer service, safety, and time management. ? Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office product. WORKING CONDITIONS ? Requires the ability to function outdoors often under adverse weather conditions, climb standard ladders (250-pound weight limit), negotiate obstacles, navigate crawl and concealed spaces, tolerate dust and mold, lift up to sixty (60) pounds. ? Requires cardiovascular fitness to walk 400 yards over varying terrain. ? Requires sufficient ambulatory ability to move about the office and outdoor field locations and to bend, stoop, reach, and climb. ? Requires near and far visual acuity to read detailed maps, drawings, other printed material, computer screens, observe moving objects, and observe physical layouts. ? Requires manual and finger dexterity to write and to operate microcomputers and other office equipment. ? Requires the ability to alternatively sit and stand for sustained periods of time to observe construction and perform counter work. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION : Drivers License - Possession of a Valid Maryland Class "C" drivers lic nse. License is to be in good standing and acceptable by the City of Cambridge and its insurance carrier. Fuel Certification - Must obtain Class C Fuel Certification mandated by State Regulatory authority with 90 days of employment. Formal and training and On-The-Job training will be provided by the City. PRE-EMPLOYMENT: All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a preemployment physical exam, including a drug/alcohol test, and a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting.
