Summary:
Performs accounting responsibilities related to assigned functional area accounts which includes the analysis, maintenance, reconciliation, examination, and verification of accounts activity. Responsible for posting and closing assigned accounts on a monthly basis. Completes account analysis and may prepare financial statements. Identifies, summarizes, and validates transactional data created by Oracle Financial system module. Provides critical reports and assessments for management action.
Maintains and tracks the company’s fixed assets. Oversees and re-forecasts capital budgets throughout the fiscal year. Oversees financial reporting and accounting for the Subaru of America Foundation. Reconciles and tracks spending for various programs throughout the company, such as Connected Services and Techshare, covering both capital and G&A expenses. Completes various recurring (ex: annual, quarterly) reports, such as personal property tax returns, governmental reports, corporate performance reports, and quarterly consolidation package.
Primary Responsibilities:
Completes monthly closing of accounts in assigned functional area to include journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting financial schedules. Develops estimates (accruals) for any costs incurred but not paid.
Reconciles all activity for assigned general ledger accounts utilizing aging reports and Oracle financial statements. Researches and corrects accounting discrepancies that may not have an apparent or clear rationale upon initial review.
Generates and issues monthly statements as well as responds to inquiries from relevant parties. Performs research into inquiries and explains rationale for accounting decisions.
Generates information for accounting/financial documentation including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and fiscal year-end statements, all with supporting analysis.
Audits and records all funds movement, as well as records all material adjustments to financial statements. Matches amounts to their source.
Ensures that all J-SOX compliance controls are followed.
Analyzes transactions to ensure accuracy of balances and that transactions are accounted for appropriately within the general ledger system. Uses judgment to make necessary adjustments. Distinguishes trends of assigned accounts/functional areas.
Prepares and distributes analysis and summary reports to all management levels. Performs depreciation, amortization, forecasting, and projection analyses as requested.
Maintains and tracks the company's fixed assets. Ensures that appropriate monthly depreciation and amortization entries are made accurately and oversees the maintenance of fixed asset systems for corporate books in Oracle and tax books in Bloomberg. Collaborates with various business areas to guarantee that capital invoices are correctly coded to the appropriate capital request forms. Reconciles all fixed asset balance sheet accounts.
Oversees and re-forecasts capital budgets throughout the fiscal year. Closely collaborates with various department heads and the parent company to build and track annual budgets. Creates and maintains monthly reports that analyze budget variances and provide explanations for any discrepancies to department heads and senior finance management. Facilitates the capital budget request process for all departments, as well as diligently tracks spending through specific request forms. Prepares monthly and quarterly projections of depreciation and amortization.
Oversees all accounting and financial reporting for the Subaru of America (SOA) Foundation. Maintains financial records including P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements. Completes bank and investment statement reconciliations and summarizes all activities. Collaborates with the Corporate Responsibility Manager to ensure proper payments for employee contributions, scholarships, and other charitable contributions.
Tracks spending for various programs such as Connected Services and Techshare, covering both capital and G&A expenses. On a quarterly basis, works closely with business stakeholders to reconcile spending to the total project spending agreed upon by the parent company and executive committee.
Files personal property taxes and various governmental reports.
Prepares consolidated annual reports for SOA and SOA Foundation.
Prepares the quarterly consolidation package for reporting to Subaru Corporation (SBR).
Additional Responsibilities:
Works with internal and external auditors by providing requested data, explanations, and process details as requested.
Collaborates with the Accounting team in the implementation of various financial systems and process improvements on an as-needed basis in order to drive efficiency and effectiveness within the financial process.
Stays current with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) as they relate to your specific area of responsibility.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required.
Working knowledge of the Oracle Financial Package or experience with relevant ERP financial systems.
Experience with financial software systems such as Qlik, OneStream, GL Wand, and/or Essbase and ability and willingness to learn new financial software systems as needed.
Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and Word).
Ability to multi-task and work independently with limited supervision.
Ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
Strong problem-resolution abilities.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Internal Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and accounting analysis.
Knowledge of Japanese standards for Financial Instruments and Exchange Act (J-SOX).
Ability to prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts independently and accurately.
Ability to contribute to or lead projects and work as part of a cross functional team and business partner.
Preferred:
Ability to create entries and reports from a large amount of detailed data.
Experience with financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting and strong analytical skills to identify and resolve variances and exceptions.
Excellent communication skills to resolve any transaction and accounting discrepancies and to collaborate with all levels of management.
Understanding of Fixed Asset policy.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or advanced financial degree
Education/Experience Requirements: BA/BS with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience
Work Environment
Compensation: The recruiting base salary range for this full-time position is $65800- $94000 / year. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
