DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Water Treatment Plant Foreman for the DOC, you are responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing pumps, valves, chlorinators, chemical feeders, compressors, laboratory equipment and computer monitoring systems to effectively support the ongoing operation of a 1.2 million gallon capacity water treatment plant.

Duties include performing daily laboratory testing and equipment calibration required to meet Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulations and providing proper daily chemical dosage to maintain normal plant operations.  The incumbent in this position oversees inmate workers in the performance of janitorial and maintenance work details while assigned to the water treatment plant.  You ensure tool control and caustic/toxic supply inventory records are maintained in accordance with applicable regulations and policies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment; 40-hour work week. 
  • Work hours are 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,753.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS *Minimum Experience and Training Requirement:*

  • One year of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment plant. 

*Special Requirements: *

  • All employees must possess a valid certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators as a water treatment plant operator that is equal to or higher than a Class C with subclasses 1, 7, 8, and 11.
  • All employees must possess a valid Class E certificate issued by the Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators.
  • All employees must possess a valid Pennsylvania noncommercial Class C driver's license or equivalent that is not currently under suspension.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
