Day ShiftThe Advanced Practice Nurse functions as a role model, teacher, innovator and colleague of the Healthcare team. Commits to driving quality through evidence based practice, patient centric care, and knowledge of regulatory guidelines and measuresBegin

  • Clinical Practice

  • Performs physical assessments pertinent to patient’s chief complaint

  • Evaluates assessment data, order and evaluates appropriate diagnosticstudies and establishes diagnoses.

  • Establishes treatment plan according to currently accepted standards; providesadvanced nursing interventions as well as selected delegated medical acts;and evaluates patient’s response to care

  • Orders and evaluates appropriate diagnostic studies

  • Performs and monitors therapeutic procedures

  • Prioritizes work when treating multiple patients

  • Communicates with patients, families, staff and peers

  • Records and documents clinical assessment data, interventions, results, andpatient outcomes

  • Educates patients and/or families in order to promote wellness, prevent healthproblems, maintain current health and intervene in acute or chronic illness

  • Uses standard precautions

  • Responsible for leading Quality Improvement and best practice

  • Responsible for quality outcomes

  • Maintains competency in the delivery of patient care and electronic documentationof care

  • Provide education and mentoring of new staff

  • Consultation

  • Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and nursing administration to implement andevaluate patient care delivery in the hospital

  • Collaborates with specialists as necessary

  • Administrative / Leadership

  • Facilitates and implements systems which promote and maintain effectivecommunication and collaboration with inter/intra hospital physicians, nurses, and othermembers of the health care team

  • Maintains appropriate records and documentation of clinical and educational activities

  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with patients, families, and with professional andsupportive personnel who provide patient care

  • Recognizes and uses appropriate channels to communicate stressful patientcare/performance situations that arise with physicians, families, and other staffmembers

  • Works with collaborating physician(s) regarding Quality Improvement activity

  • Contributes to the development of new program ideas to benefit the department,hospital, and/or staff

  • Acts as a role model

  • Participates in activities necessary for annual review. Documents continuingcompetency in the areas of medical diagnoses, therapeutics, invasive procedures, and management of the patient, as well as required certifications

  • Serves on departmental and interdisciplinary committees as required

  • Performs other duties as determined by the collaborative physician(s) or supervisor

  • Education

  • Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice,as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure and ongoingcertification

  • Accepts self-responsibility for advancing skills and continuing education as evidencedby:

  • Setting realistic and measurable goals for individual developmental needs basedon personal, peer, and supervisory evaluations of strengths and learning needs

  • Assessing own performance status in relation to this position description andprogress toward achievement of professional goals on an annual basis

  • Seeking learning experiences/responsibilities to strengthen areas requiringdevelopment and to advance knowledge about other current developments inpractice

  • Evaluates patient and staff educational materials, reviewing for current / best practice

  • Participates in community education and health related community activities

  • Research

  • Critiques and utilizes research findings as appropriate in the clinical setting

  • May participate in medical and nursing research projects, including presentingand publishing finding

Become

  • Masters or Doctorate of Science in Nursing, Registered Professional Nurse; prefer two years clinical experience and certification in his/her field of experience

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse and certificate of recognition to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse as required by the Missouri State Board of Nursing

  • Maintains and enhances a current level of knowledge relative to professional practice, as well as continuing education requirements necessary for licensure and ongoing certification

  • Professional knowledge of medical theory and practice. Extensive knowledge of physical assessment, differential diagnosis, pathophysiology, and management of acute and chronic patient/family problems

  • Substantial interpersonal skills necessary to instruct patients and their families and to collaborate with health team members

  • Orthopedic Surgery experience preferred

  • Certified in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English
