Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Reliability Engineer at our Caro Factory.

Job Summary:

The Reliability Engineer is responsible for evaluating, analyzing data providing root cause analysis to maintain assets and improve equipment reliability. In this engineering role, the Reliability Engineer is responsible for predictive and preventative maintenance programs using technical aspects based on solid engineering principles.

The position will be in a key role to develop and implement maintenance excellence through professionally developed programs, systematically defined, designed, monitored as needed for preventive (PM) and Predictive (PdM) processes.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with the maintenance department to ensure PM/PdM services and inspections are scheduled and performed, and resultant corrective work is promptly performed ensuring equipment reliability.
  • Management of predictive programs, vibration, thermography, non-destructive testing, and interpretation of data.
  • Assist maintenance department with equipment inspections, adjustments, replacements, overhauls and improvements for factory equipment reliability and asset protection.
  • Perform corrosion, abrasion, cyclic stress/fatigue, metallurgic and other associated environmental and design factors which affect equipment life.
  • Assuring efficient and reliable operation of the factory equipment and process, while protecting and prolonging the economic life of assets at optimal cost.
  • Identifies and develops engineering solutions to repetitive chronic failures, costly equipment problems through the analysis of equipment history and root cause analysis.
  • Provides technical advice to maintenance and operations for proper rotating equipment alignment, balancing, and assembly/disassembly procedures.
  • Implements methods to reduce maintenance occurrence failures:
  • Increase Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)
  • Decreases Mean Time to Repair (MTTR)
  • Applies value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and purchase/replacement decisions.
  • Develops a standardized program that influences the selection of materials, equipment and spare parts.
  • Remains abreast of and applies advancing maintenance technology as applicable.
  • Coordinates with factory management and engineering department to ensure the maintainability of new capital projects and modified installations.
  • Ensures that spare parts list, equipment manuals, and prints are provided for all new installations and that they are consistent with established standards.
  • Participates in the final check out of capital and project installations.
  • Establishes and documents maintenance procedures for all new installations, including updating standard operating procedures (SOP's) as needed.
  • Guides efforts to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment, processes, utilities, facilities, controls, and safety/security systems.
  • Oversee lubrication program management, making recommendations for proper lubrication and economics.
  • Be involved with developing programs for above ground storage tank integrity, pressure vessel inspections and process piping systems through non-destructive testing.
  • Assist maintenance teams with developing and maintaining 5-year budget plan for all essential and proposed work.
